Air regulator valve

Does anyone know how to test the auxillary air valve for operation. I am having problems with the idle at warm up, and I think that might be my cause.

My symtems are when I start it it will idle but when I step on the gas it goes up and when I let go it will act like it is going to die. This is only during warm up.

put a mark on the little slider on the inside and then put it in the freezer for a bit. The valve should move.

You don't even have to do that. The engine should be idling high when you start it totally cold. After a few minutes the idle should come down. If it doesn't, squeeze the hose on the air valve ( on the throttle body side) with pliers( to stop the air flow), and the idle should come down. That means it's not closing.

It idles really low at startup and it doesnt do anything when I squeeze the hose thats why I was thinking it was the air regulator. Also could someone tell me what the wires read on there regulator to see if mine match the reading.

Yours must be stuck closed then, or something blocking the hose someplace. If you take the hose going to the throttle body boot off, the idle should go up.

Otherwise, probably time for a new one. Check that you have power at the plug with the engine on.

I will definitely check on the power part. Right now my car is about a 20 minute drive from me. I will check it when I get the shifter for it from webdawg

I myself have the same problem right now with my 280. I am first thinking it might be the thermo switch in the thermostat housing. have wires that are prety bad and need replaced. Let us know if you get what is causing that.

Surprised that no one has asked this yet, but have you performed a fuel pressure test yet? if so what was it @ idle?

The pressure is at 39-41, I have an aftermarket fuel rail and a pressure gauge mounted on the top of the pressure regulator.
