Timing Chain Installation 75 280

Can someone tell me if the silver colored links on the timing chain are suppose to cover the camshaft and crank timing marks when doing a timing chain installation.

I'm running into a setup problem with the silver links covering the timing marks and the #1 set at TDC , the cam shaft gear grove is off about ~ 3- 4 degrees. it looks like ( - v ) , I know it should be (-v)

I think if the grove was on the left it would indicate the chain is streched, that's why I'm questioning the postion of the silver links with the timing marks.

This is not a new chain I just screwed up when installing a new head gasket and didn't wedge the chain good enough. :stupid:
