Can anyone recommend who can perform a history check on a Z Car? All of the online services require a 17 digit VIN.

I called my insurance company and they wouldn't do it.

Unfortunately, it is up to you, the DMV in every state your car has been registered in, and how closely you check out the car before you buy it.

Carfax will not work for anything not having a 17 digit VIN, period, no exceptions. Even then if you have an older car with a 17 digit VIN you probably still will not find records since they are a relatively new company and those kinds of records have not been around for too long (when considering how long we have had cars on the market).
