check out these wheels

Back to topic, kind of...

I like the wheels, except all the holes for mounting. I like that he has tried something different. I think a nice euro style bumper would set off the front end. I see there are no vents any longer. I wonder if I'd have to keep a window cracked to have any air moving. Overall a very clean looking car, but then, I just love the lines of a series one car.

Jeering and making fun of "things" is OK so long as it's not your "thing" that is being jeered at. Then it gets personal. (I'm not talking about you specificly, rather about anyone's "thing") Yes, I do say Z Police as a NEGATIVE. That's how their actions come across to some people. As for this "making fun of" being "part of membership", I could see that if it was between friends within the club, but this guy isn't (as far as we know) a partisipant here.

Yes some people here know the history, etc of these cars but in past threads bashing specific cars many of the members partisipating and criticizing a car are members who consistantly prove (via their posts) that they DONT know much of the history (nor are they very knowledgable about) these cars. they are simply expressing opinions, and in many cases uninformed opinions, and bashing a car because it doesn't live up to their wet-dream ideal of a car.

the case with burt is a classic example (PLEASE LETS NOT START IT ALL OVER AGAIN) He appeared and he responded to people who were already trashing his car (who didn't know $hit about it) but he did so by "giving" what he felt he was "getting" from this club. By doing it that way he made sure that no one would like him. That was his big mistake, but the actions of the members posting the comments about his car started it all and left him two options:

1. let people who don't know his car (or why he did what he did to it) trash his car at a time when he was trying to sell it, OR

2. defend himself/his car.

It's too bad he was put in that position, but unfortunately he was, and he chose #2 and then (unwisely IMO) decided to give back what was given to him, which only inflamed the POLICE further (no surprise there).

If the POLICING was just pointing out "this is missing" or "that is damaged", or "this is the wrong part for that year car" it would be one thng; but when it gets to comments like

"Why's he selling? Did he buy the car cheap, throw on a quicky paint job and fancy wheels and try to sell it on eBay for a tidy profit? What rust and bondo might that paint be hiding?"
or
"what in gods name was the guy thinking of by not cleaning the motor as well as cleaning up the hoses and wiring, man what a disappointment, wonder if it even runs. Cant believe that someone would do all that was done to the car and then not complete the work by detailing the engine bay."
or
Which is why I am suspicious of the whole car. It just doesn't ring true.

Sometimes the POLICE come across as enjoying trashing a car and/or it's owner just for the fun of it.

According to the auction of the car this thread was meant to discuss the owner is an older person, maybe it's as simple as he lost interest after the body work was done. Nothing mechanical seems to have been done to the car. The look of the engne bay appears to be the result of being covered in Ziebart. If any of you have ever tried to remove all of that you'd understand how difficult it is. As for the dust and dirt on the 30+ year old engine and it sporting flat top carbs, it's nothing that a good washing wouldn't cure, and having flat-tops is certainly not a sign of the car being neglected in any meaningful way.

Remember, it's a no reserve auction, it's not like the owner is saying the car is perfect and is worth $20K, or whatever. (who cares what the guy listing the car thinks, he isn't the owner, he's just the guy who copied & pasted a bunch of statistics from a book into the auction page and submitted it for his friend)

I don't care for the wheels, but they would be easy enough to sell and replace. As for the small grille opening possibly causing overheating problems, an aluminum radiator and twin electric cooling fans would solve any such issues.

...

I like a bumper on the front of a car. I am too nervous to park a bumperless car anywhere.

DITTO!

I would have liked even "half bumpers" (similar to the cut bumper on the early 70's Chevy Camaro), but NO bumper leaves me worried. Way too many careless people out there and even a shopping cart going bump......Yikes!

Personally, i would have approached the restriction of the lower part of the grille opening differently. I would rather see that piece of sheet metal blended into the side pieces of the front air dam, and present a complete smooth appearance.

Also the rear bumper over-rider although it looks nice, is kind of ..... out of line with the front end.

But you have to admit that the paint job is well done. And it is it's excellence compared to that engine compartment that makes that such a blemish, but as Garth pointed out, Ziebart is NOT fun to work with (I know!). I think I'd rather tackle a glob of Never-Seize than Ziebart.

Well, I'm rather embarrassed. Two of the quotes listed there were mine. And although I probably came across rather harshly, it wasn't really my intent. I guess I'm still feeling the cynicism that I developed while searching for a realistic Z project. But it was totally unfair for me to transfer that to this car and its seller(s), when I've never seen the car in person, and didn't even take the time to thoroughly read the auction description. I'm guilty.

Consider the point made, I apologize publicly, have deleted the inappropriate comments and have been rebuked.

Hey, did anyone else notice that the tires are so new that they still have the stickers on the tread?

I like the car. I like the wheels. I like the seats. I don't like it enough to pay the current asking price and try to truck it home...

I just wish my car was finished enough for the "Z-police" to make fun of..

All I was trying to state in my post were the things that would deter me from being a potential buyer if I was in the market. Some like the wheels some don't...that's okay. You guys can pick my car apart all you want. It's not for sale, it's not a show car, it's not a restoration, etc. So picking it apart would be a rather moot endeavor since I'm the only one who has to live with the car so to speak. The car in the autcion is for sale. I don't see anything wrong with me or anyone else stating what they like or dislike about it. It really means nothing. I'm not a potential buyer anyway. It's just talk. It doesn't take anything away from his attempt to sell the car. I do agree that any kind of lambasting of the seller or sellers is unwarranted and I don't feel as if I did that.

I'll apologize for having been the one to jump with hob-nail boots.

As for addressing individual comments, no more need be said, and Arne, I'll apologize to you personally for any static you feel you've received.

I think that, as a CLUB, Stephen's comment above and the other supportive comments speak for us. This is the key to avoiding the flame wars that can consume a site so easily.

This is a very dynamic group and it isn't hard to get it revved up to the max. We just need to be careful when we red-line as that is what causes us to loose good members. (Bambi, 2ManyZ's, and others).

I'll take my twenty lashes now.....

No need, Enrique. I was a bit out of line. It was good of you (and others) to point it out.

Since you and I are not that far apart geographically, we'll probably meet someday. And we can laugh about it. If you make it down to Springfield, I can treat you to a good, dark homebrew.

Hey Stephen,

Okay, I don't care for the bra. Just kidding, I'm sorry, but couldn't resist. :tapemouth
