Posted November 8, 200519 yr comment_145005 I have a 75 280 with a good running L28. i bought the car as a fun daily driver but now i see all the possabilitys and am giving in like i did with my ford bronco. i want to be able to drive my car but build the enginge at the same time so i was thinking get a junk L28 and build it in the shop then drop it in in an evening or two when its done. the question is how much does a core L28 go for with everything? November 8, 200519 yr comment_145010 you could get a reconditioned one from MSA or VB; i believe they're around $2k for long blocks. if you want to go junkyard (which might be better overall cost-wise) you can probably expect to pay around $150 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17926-l28/#findComment-145010 Share on other sites

I bought a car for $500, but I needed the engine, tranny and other things. I had heard of a car in the Tacoma area for $200 but didn't get a returned call or answer. I also know of 2 cars in the Clackamas area, one iwth w siezed motor. These have been sitting for years and belong to this guys grandson. I know he wants to get rid of them and you may be able to get it all for $200-$250. But you may have to take it all. If you want a block only, that would need to be bored, you can find those really cheap. And if you can scour the wrecking yards, you may get an L28 really cheap and relatively whole. I'll keep my ears and eyes open.B Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17926-l28/#findComment-145012 Share on other sites
November 8, 200519 yr comment_145014 I have an L28 out of my '72, the guy said he pulled the l24 and put it in for more horsies. it ran when I pulled it out of my car, tranny included! I also have an L24 out of my other '72 parts car that runs great I drove it around before dismatling the car, it has dual webbers with tranny also. I'll sell them to whoever wants them, $400 for both or 2 hundy apiece. November 8, 200519 yr comment_145030 Hi CR, I'm a lot closer than Nebraska. I have a short block L28 you can have for $100 if you want. I might be able to get it as close as Seattle, but not for awhile. If you could pick it up you could have it sooner.
