'78 280Z Passes E-Check!

Here's the results of the recent emissions check:

HC: 88 ppm (limit 390ppm)

CO: .88% (limit 2.82%)

NO: 928ppm (limit 2486ppm)

CO2: 14.4%

I didn't need to get it checked, but I wanted to see how good the engine is doing. It is very important for everyone, no matter how old your car is, to maintain the engine to help clean up the

Would be interesting to get the results from a more recent car (I.E. - 1995-2005 model and compare the results....Sounds like it's in a pretty good state of tune...

they don't give you the specifics, AFAIK, unless you ask for it. All my sheet says is PASS, and doesn't have all the same things on it. I guess you gotta ask for the specifics to get them.

Here are the results from my 78 tested 7/6/05. We still have to test out here.

HC: 51ppm (limit 181)

CO: .01% (limit 1.16)

NO: 682ppm (limit 1224)

CO2: 12.64%

It looks like California's standards are more stringent than Ohio.

The standards are just as strict, but since we have cleaner air, the limits are higher.

comparing an escort is unfair. i was told by a mechanic testing mine, they were the cleanest burning (factory) car in the world.

We're required to test in Illinois too, but since the car is old enough, it's just a test at idle...no dyno run.

The limits are similar to Ohio's it seems, but like my new cars, all I have is a card that says "Pass."

The Nissan tech guy helped get the engine running well. I guess he really does have "30 years" experience with Z cars.

A niice compliment for my '97 Escort tho. 71k miles on that baby. Only thing I did on that is some new air filters, occasional oil change, and a set of spark plug wires.

The tech guy mentioned that there are some 'newer' cars out there with bad emmisions; probably high mileage cars that aren't maintained.

I still give my tailpipe an enema (cleaning) before a car show tho. It still gets sooty.
