Just bought a set of 17" x 7"with the correct 4" backspace centerline wheels for my stock ride height 73 240z what tire size fits best? I've think 205/45/17 or is it 205/40/17 ? any help would be appreciated thanks.

Depends on what effect you are looking for. The closest 17" size in overall diameter to the original 14" is actually 225/45-17. But these days many people don't want tires as tall as the stock 14" - one of the more popular 15" choices is 225/50-15, which is significantly shorter than the original.

205/40's have too small of a sidewall. The car will handel better with a 45 or 50. 205/50/17 (the one I would run) is the correct height tire as well as what Arne said.

Yeah, the 205/50-17 is probably a better size for 7" wide wheels.

If the the car is lowered 1 1/2 " Wil the 205/50-17 tires still work?

I have Koning Imagine 17x7 and not sure on wheel size.

My brakes are Wilwood. Im going to put all parts together for the first time.

What size should be the best 205/50/17 or 215/50/17 or can I go wider? 225 the most.

So we have a question of overall tire height/diameter vs. aspect ratio or profile.

The overall height of a stock 175/70-14 is not significantly taller than a 205/50-15 or a 205/45-17 as this should be maintained for minimal speedometer error.

Yes, their profiles are lower (sidewall height decreases) but the overall heights/diameters are not too different.

But a 205/50-17 actually creates a taller overall height than stock, even though the profile is lower.
