Posted November 21, 200519 yr comment_146698 I just joined the website and I am also new to Z-cars! I live in california and I would like to drop a 350 sb chevy into my 76 280z and have it still be able to pass smog. I am also on a budget and would like to do this as cheap as possible. If not; I would like to know what kind of power I can get out of my L-28E motor with bolt-on parts like a full exhaust, cold air intake, 60mm throttle body, and a crane XR-3000 ignition box! Any suggestions would be highly appreciated, thanks!!! :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18101-350-sbc-in-280z-swap/ Share on other sites

Like what was mentioned before go to the hybrid z website, you dont have to ask that question just do a search b/c it has been answered before! If I were you I would also buy a JTR v-8 conversion manual, I bought one awhile ago and it tells you everything you ever wanted to know. be carefull what you ask at this site about swaps most of these guys are purist and like it original!! but they know what they are saying, and they are alot more fun that the hybrid forums! Good luck with the swap, only thing else i have to say is you should do it to a 240z it will be faster bc its lighter, plus it looks better without that HUGE bumper on the front!!! Expect to have to go to the referee station, as well.IMHO, "dropping in a V8" isn't the best thing to do on a budget. What kind of budget are you talking about? How much research have you done? Spend the money to get a copy of the Jags That Run book for the Datsun 350 conversion. It may not have all of the answers, but it will give you an idea of what you need to do.Also, IMHO, about any horsepower estimates you get on your questions on modifying your L28 are worth what you paid for the estimate. People can guess, but it's only a guess.Good luck in your decisions. November 28, 200519 yr comment_147600 Out of a wrecked 280ZX Turbo in a wrecking yard. Should be the cheapest way to start. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18101-350-sbc-in-280z-swap/#findComment-147600 Share on other sites
November 28, 200519 yr comment_147602 Where can I find turbo kits for my 280z? Thanks!Josh,I suggest that you do some research to figure out what you might want to do. Here is the Amazon listing for a book I purchased on turbochargers: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0895861356/103-0325839-2372616?v=glance&n=283155&s=books&v=glance.Also search through this site, http://www.zcar.com, and http://www.hybridz.org for information on turbocharging an engine.I doubt you'll find a ready made kit on adding a turbocharger to your existing car. It's not like there's that much of a market to do so. Most people who want to turbocharge their Z find a 280ZX turbo (hopefully a rusted-out car), and pull the drivetrain and wiring harness from that. November 28, 200519 yr comment_147612 The amount of power that can come out of a v8 is much bigger than an L28. The mods you are talking about will not do much. To get power from the L28 you need to do head modifications like porting, cam, ect., and switch to Carbs or get bigger injectors and a new computer. Any way you slice it getting power cost money. But it does cost more to get a 250HP L28 than a 250 HP 350.
