after installing 82 zx distributor and coil on my 240,I developed a miss in the idle.Is there a chance that the module is not working properly?I thought that they're were either good or not.Any help would be great and any upgrades other than the obvious MSD.

Pertronix Ignitor and a Stock 240Z Dizzy.

I don't think it's the module, like you said, I think they are all or nothing. Did you remove or bypass the ballast resistor? and are you using a coil designed for electronic ignition, or just the stock 240Z coil?

I did remove the stock 240 coil and used the stock coil from the 82 zx.Also the balast resistor was removed.

I believe the 82' dizzy may have come with the E-12-93 module and not the E-12-80 that you want. Do know which one you have? The numbers should be on the cover. There are plenty of threads on this topic in here. Just do a search.

Yeah, the '82 would have come with the E12-93, but I'm certain that's not the problem. I've still got the E12-93 on my car (until I find an affordable E12-80) and as long as you advance the timing to compensate for the lack of input from the injection brain (about 8 degrees, IIRC), it works OK. Not ideal, but OK.

I found beck arney modules on line for $65.00 . My local bone yard gave me the one I have for a spair. There around , however just like the RX-7 fuel pump . Just as soon as the word gets out they soon dissapear. Gary

I'm sorry guys,it is a 12-80 off a 81zx,just wandering if a hotter coil would help at all,or locate the problem first I guess.

You guys are all going down the wrong path. I've had this problem with these distributors before it's arching out. If you remove the distributor inspect the way the shaft rotates around. There are several points around the edge that the centre of the shaft passes but should NOT touch. Often this comes out of adjustment and can touch causing the distributor to arch out. This is what causes the slight miss at idle. The module is either working or not(no in between).

If that is not the cause I'd look at distributor cap, leads, plugs then coil although I doubt it would be the coil.

Was the distributor from a junkyard?
