should all 240's have rear sway bars

I was crawling around under my '73 240 to see how difficult its going to be to replace all that rotten old suspension rubber. I had been looking in VBS so I kinda knew what to be looking for. To my surprise I could not find the rear sway bar on my car. :surprised I can see the brackets where one would go.

I've had this car since '76. It hadn't been raced or modified before I got it. Very stock except the previous owner had put on the '72 carbs. Looks like somehow the factory just forgot to put one in there. Were they standard or maybe it was a European thing? I suppose this presents an opportunity for something better but I'm just going to do the front and the kyb's first.

tks

Don

The late '73 240 had the brackets for the rear sway bar . The bar that will fit is from a EARLY '74 260 . This bar has two bends in it that the others dont . These are needed to clear the diff. The end links are the same as all the rest of the sway bars . It's just the bar it's self that is different. I don't remember the cut off date on the '74 , when they went to the bar the 280 has. There must be an aftermarket sway bar that's right??? You can get an aftermarket sway bar for anything.

Hi Don,

I believe no 240z's had these as standard but there were the brackets for them. I guess it's very likely it was an optional item.

Come on Gav, you have to do better than that! :) We've covered this question many times in the past on this Forum......

There were '240Zs' fitted with rear anti-roll bars from the Factory, and there were lots of other S30-series Z cars ( Fairlady Z, Fairlady Z-L, Fairlady 240Z, Fairlady 240Z-L, Fairlady 240ZG, Fairlady Z432 & Z432-R for example ) that had them fitted from the Factory, or could specify them at time of order too.

It was the USA market that was odd man out in this case.

The engineers at Nissan must have figured that good handling would be so out of place in the US, that drivers would'nt like it, so they left them off LOL LOL LOL.

Joking aside, strange that a componant so crucial to the handling of a car was omitted from a particular market.

As far as I am aware, all European S30's had them as stock.
