rif222 Posted December 24, 2005 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2005 I read in an article that Datsun-Nissan has a repair kit for broken defrost wires on the rear hatch. I can't seem to find it now. Is there a way to fix the defrost wires? Thanks. Bill.
Arne Posted December 24, 2005 Share #2 Posted December 24, 2005 Kits to do that used to be stocked at many parts houses - places like AutoZone, Pep Boys, etc. It was a copper impregnated paint, that you brushed on to bridge bad spots.
v12horse Posted December 25, 2005 Share #3 Posted December 25, 2005 Does this stuff look good and work? I would love to have my rear defroster work. Only 3 lines work.-Ben
mlc240z Posted December 25, 2005 Share #4 Posted December 25, 2005 i've used a permatex repair kit before successfully, but the breaks must be fairly small. it is not supposed to be used on large gaps. sorry, don't know the exact max gap size. SteveInOakland Posted December 25, 2005 Share #5 Posted December 25, 2005 i've used a permatex repair kit before successfully, but the breaks must be fairly small. What did the gaps look like -- evidently big enough to see... Mine has problems but I haven't been able to spot any gaps.Thx,Steve
Arne Posted December 25, 2005 Share #6 Posted December 25, 2005 i've used a permatex repair kit before successfully, but the breaks must be fairly small. it is not supposed to be used on large gaps. sorry, don't know the exact max gap size.Small breaks can be repaired, but if large amounts are missing (such as when window tint is removed) it won't do the job. I think the repair paint just restores continuity, it doesn't get warm like the original grid does.
webdawg1 Posted December 25, 2005 Share #7 Posted December 25, 2005 FSM makes reference to "Conductive Silver Composition" Dupont No. 4817 but you should be able to get a repair kit that will work just as well from JCwhitney at the following url:http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product?storeId=10101&Pr=p_Product.CATENTRY_ID%3A2002938&productId=2002938&langId=-1&catalogId=10101webdawg1
mlc240z Posted December 25, 2005 Share #8 Posted December 25, 2005 i think arne's right, that's why the gap size is limited. no heat, just continuity to bridge the oem lines.picked up my kit in NAPA, but most local parts stores should have them. even kmart/walmart.use a shoplight on the backside of the glass, and then look in from the outside at the grid lines.inspect each grid line closely and gaps will be evident, or will show as a different color (light brown as opposed to dark) depending on the color of the grid.
