Wow! Can you give me the specs on your rims sakijo? Thanks for the cranes info. Would you know why they chose cranes as there symbol? What does it mean?

The crane symbolizes "long life" in Japanese culture. There are two other symbols for long life; the turtle and the pine tree. All three of these live for long periods of time and are considered auspicious symbols. In the old days, a lot of children were named Tsuru (crane), Matsu (pine) and Kame (turtle) in hope that they lived long lives - remember, this was a period of high infant mortality, so you tried to give your child any "edge" that you could. My guess is that they chose cranes because they could stylize it to look like a "W" and hope for the company's "long life" BTW the old Japan Airlines logo was also a crane, but formed in a round shape to mimic the Japanese family crest, which often served as a company's logo.

My rims are 15x7, PCD 114.3. Front tires are 195/55-15 and the rears are 205/60-15. It gives the car a bit of a rake without altering the suspension. I don't know the offset, but the back fenders have rolled inner lips to clear the rim and tire.

You are correct. Speed Star Racing manufactured the RS-8 for RS-Watanabe. They discontinued production for the 2005 year, where RS-Watanabe replaced them with the 17'' GR-8. The RS-8 were advertised on the RS-Watanabe site http://www.rs-watanabe.co.jp but no longer appear there. Speed Star Racing went bankrupt in early 2005 and their site went dead http://www.speedstar.co.jp They have since been purchased by Tanabe.

I've been monitoring Tanabe's web resources for news on weither they would continue production. Well it's now settled, as their web site now, not only includes the full line of SSR wheels http://www.rd-tanabe.com/ssr/index.html, but even a new model, remaniscent of the famous and rare Brite Star http://www.rd-tanabe.com/ssr/collection/ssr_sp2r/index.html. Unforutunatly, not in an offset or PCD for any Datsun.

Damn Victory Laury! You were able to do something that I have been trying do,search ever since I got the rims! Thanks for the link. I tried going to the speedstar website before but the same thing happened and now I know that they went bankrupt I guess that explains all of it. Thanks! Does this make the RS-8's vintage?:classic:

Thats just cool sakijo. I love how the Japanese give meaning and beliefs on certain things and how you guys are very traditional. Very cool.

Really nice rims! I have a question? Mine's are 16x7 for the front and 16x8 for the rear. Do you think these have been altered or are they up to spec? Oh! BTW, This pic you sent to the forum? http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=10530&d=1136329941

Are these the center caps for the rims? Mine didn't come with them :( I actually don't have any :( I was thinking of getting those Z emblemed caps you see on the net or getting the original caps for the rims but I have no idea what they looked like! Can you help me out? Thanks sakijo!

Looks good Victor Laury. Its exactly like sakijo's but 16"s. The rear lip does look a bit deeper plus with his specs

front 16x7+12 195/50/16 dunlop tires (good tread)

rear 16x8+0 205/55/16 yoko es100s (needs new tires)

as compared to mine

Model: RS-8 Size: 16x 7.0

Offset: +38 Type D

Inspector: H.Ueno

Speed Star Co,LTD.

TIRE PACKAGE:

BF GOODRICH

205x55x16

REAR SETS:

Model: RS-8 Size: 16x 8.0

Offset: +38 Type E

Inspector: H.Ueno

Speed Star Co,LTD.

225x50x16

This is coming out of my arse so don't quote me on this. The offset in his rear is +0? So I'm guessing that would make the face directly centered from the width of the rim, which I'm guessing would make the rim stick out of the wheel well? You'll probably need those black fenders too. If you had the ZG conversion that would look awesome with the RS-8's! Mine is +38 which makes the rim/tire go deeper into the wheel well. Oh by the way, I'd like to apologize to murph and to you victor laury. I just came from the shop were the car was being restored and guess what I found? spacers! Woops. LOL The black face is really nice but it kinda hides the design of the wheel (Again, Still coming out of my arse) If I were you, I'd get them before some ricer does and paints them pink! Or whatever they're doing these days. Great find victor laury! Let me know if you get them!

Yes, those are the caps for Watanabe Rims. They're expensive - if you can find a set for sale. I've seen them going for over $200.00 a set.

Damn! $200?! I'd rather buy the weatherstrip I'll be needing soon.Would you know how the center caps for the SSR RS-8's look like? If I can't find a set for the rims I'll just probably go to MSA and get those center caps with the Z logo which will probably be my last resort...

Did you see the rims that Victor Laury found? Was I right in saying that they look like yours?
