December 31, 200519 yr comment_150623 What do you mean the steering wheel is in the wrong side? A little fact for you :rambo: Did you know that only the islands of the world where the only ones who never shifted to LHD? Great Britain,Australia,Japan? If you want to know why the british opted to put the steering wheel on the right side while the americans on the left? If you want to know this fact, let me know! Saw it on Nat Geo a couple of months back! Interesting stuff! BTW, Dattodevil. Where are you from? It's not a real one, as the steering wheel is on the wrong side, :cheeky: But thanks for the link, it looks pretty nice. Thanks for the kind words about my ute, things always look better in pictures. December 31, 200519 yr comment_150629 Not many Z's in NZ... would you consider importing one from Australia? Just checked our club database - we have recorded the following cars in NZ (not sure how many are still road legal or still around....if the rust has got to them or just got wrecked etc) 240z = 143 (with 1 recorded as stolen by the member at the time and 5 non stock type engine ie V8 or turboed, again old data) 260z 2 seater = 4 (one recorded as a V8 conversion) 260z (unknown if 2+2 or 2 seater) = 34 260z 2+2 = 58 (one recorded as a V8 conversion) 280z 2 seater (yes LHD imports) = 7 280z 2+2 (again LHD) = 2 280zx 2+2 = 141 280zx 2 seater = 8 280zx (unknown if 2+2 or 2 seater) = 48 280zx targa top = 3 280zx turbo = 1 300ZR = 1 300zx (unknown if 2+2 or 2 seater) = 12 300zx 2 seater = 2 300zx 2+2 = 20 Fairlady Z 2+2 = 2 Fairlady Z 2 seater = 1 Other Z or ZX not recorded in the Database correct = 36 350z = 2 (a lot more in the country just the ones in the old database) Total Zed or ZX = 523 So not many really only 141 240z - so lets say 40% are gone never to return = 84. So series I in RHD = 00003-00500 (I know of one that has gone to OZ = my old car 00016, and of 240znz 300 and something, + I know of 2 others my brother has had in his panel shop) so lets say there are a total of 10 of these in NZ so that leaves 6. So 7% of the 240z might be series I not bad I would say. If however all 240z are still around (I know of at least 5 that have been wrecked/written off) that is more like 4% still not bad odds I would say. Cheers Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18419-yes-i-know-i-dont-have-a-z/?&page=2#findComment-150629 Share on other sites
December 31, 200519 yr comment_150630 Also keeping in mind that the Z Club was a predominantly Auckland affair, it's safe to say there's a fairly large amount stashed away in the South Island, I personally know of about 6 in Invercargill alone then there's the surrounding Southland area where another 6 odd that I'm aware of reside. Then there's the rest of the South and North Island and those who would not be part of the club for whatever reason, safe to say there's a fair amount of S30's still left around. Where are you from?I was just teasing, I know it's been a heated discussion about who the Z was actually manufactured for, personally I don't really care. But if I was to buy one it would be a RHD one, just because they are easier to drive here in New Zealand.I am always interested in history about cars, But like most people take the easy road and watch it on TV:cheeky: But yeah, fill me in, I'm keen to hear why some are left and some are right. December 31, 200519 yr Author comment_150690 Ute is just short for utility. SUV's are different.Well that starts another whole discussion on whether the 1200 Ute is in fact a ute, due to the tray part being part of the body.and if anyone is actually interested in that discussion Click here Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18419-yes-i-know-i-dont-have-a-z/?&page=2#findComment-150690 Share on other sites

January 1, 200619 yr comment_150704 Thanks for that very interesting aside Bryan. My grandmother explained to me that it was from a partly similar reasoning -to avoid fouling the drawing of a sword - that women were always on the right hand side of a male when promenading, dancing etc. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18419-yes-i-know-i-dont-have-a-z/?&page=2#findComment-150704 Share on other sites

January 2, 200619 yr comment_150825 Sorry for the ebay link I sent you Dattodevil. Didn't know you lived in New Zealand. Christchurch to be exact! I bought a book about New Zealand when I was in high school and it has always been my dream to live there but I always remembered that the driving position was still on the right side Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18419-yes-i-know-i-dont-have-a-z/?&page=2#findComment-150825 Share on other sites

If you do decide to come to New Zealand, the south island is by far the best.
