Well i was flippin through the want ad as usual and i came accross a 1974 international scout. I looked into it a bit more and it only has 85k miles with some rust on the rear quarters. Now i absolutely love these vehicles. I have a 1976 280z that im restoring right now, as many of u know. Im in a heated debate on whether i should get the scout or keep the Z. Living in new england and all the Z seems less practical in comparison to the Scout. Then comes value. The scout seems to hold its value alot more than a 280z and will only keep rising. One thing i cant do is have both ( just not enough room). Im confused here :( i dont know if i should restore the Z or the Scout. I know most of u are going to say go for the Z but i have to be practical aswell... which car would i get more use out of. Any input would be great cuz i just dunno what to do, i love both cars :stupid:

Well I guess my 1st question is: are you using your 280z as your only transportation? your daily driver? my concern is where you live you get more than your fair share of harsh winter weather, which is a scary thing for a Z car and I picture you fighting a losing battle to restore it. then maybe look into the Scout...

If your Z is your project car, tucked away in the garage, away from all that nasty weather, keep the Z!

yah i was lookin for parts and didnt see anything... My Z would be my daily driver and i would be driving it in the winter ( i might add it will also be raced out a bit... i wouldnt be able to drive a stock car LOL) Its a very difficult debate. I know its more practical for the scout but its hard to leave the Z LOL.

When I used to live down near the beach in So. Cal,

where parking and space is at a premium, people would rent out "parking garages" from homeowners for a 100-300 a month...maybe you could find something like that? and then be able to have both? just a thought.

Go with the Scout, sounds like the better long term investment to me, can't live without 4WD where I'm at, wouldn't want to even think about driving a Z year around here... In the future you may have a two car garage that will house both a Z and the Scout.

G'Day Jay,

I can understand your problem.

Before making any decisions, take the time to fully investigate parts availability, whether there's a website with great blokes as we have here who will assist in whatever way they can etc. REALLY look into it before deciding.

When it comes down to tin tacks mate, the only one who can make the decision is the bloke who looks back at you when you shave.

All the best,

Rick.

:devious: :devious:

Yeah man... The scout looks like it might be a trap to me (that thing's a beast though). Even by tackling your drivetrain difficulties (RWD to 4x4), you're still going to be battling the rust issue when it comes to winter driving unless the scout you want is already a rust-bucket... but even then, safety issues come to mind...

My opinion is that if you need a car for winter, nothing you're gonna find from the 70's is going to see you through best. Winter is brutal on cars, and I think it'd be in your best interests to have a car that can take the punishment, and by that token I mean something a lot newer.

Just my $.02
