I am changing my drivers door handle on my 77 280. I have managed to remove the two nuts .. there is some bleeding on my arm but not too bad yet.

What now? Do I need to push the arm out of where it locks into the handle itself ? Is it easier to remove the window ? ..

Anyone who has done this please help me with this job ..

Thanks .. Bruce

According to antoher post the linkage arm should just lift out of the handle. Perhaps there's a C-clip or something holding it together? Do you have one of those little mirror on a stick thingys?

No need to remove the window. Just wind it right up, to undo the nuts, then wind it right down again. There should be enough gap between the edge of the window to get a flat screwdriver in and pop the arm out of the handle. (It's held in with a plastic clip).

It works for me on a 240Z, I dont see why a 280Z should be so different.

There is no need to remove the window. I have done a few of these as they tend to get old and brake. You have already removed the two nuts on the handle. The connecting rod can either be popped out of the handle (take a flat head screwdriver and press) or you can also remove the handle with the rod connected as the lower end just lifts out of the location it attaches to. It is much easier to remove the handle without the rod connected! Do not drop the rod or you will be in for more cuts on your arm while retrieving it! Installation is just the reverse...although not quite as easy as removal as you will find out.

Bring this thread back, but heh better than starting a completely new one. My question is if the the plastic clip that is holding it will break or fall down inside the door. Basically I'm just removing it for a paint job and still need to put it back on. Thanks!

The plastic clip is attached. That is, you unclip and swing it out of the way, then pull on the angled rod out of the handle and you can then remove the handle. The clip is to keep the rod IN the handle's hole.

FWIW

Another way if you can't remove the clip as on my z is to loosen the lock mechanism on the door. Lower it and the rod will disconnect so you can lift it out still connected to the handle. Not the preferred way but it works.
