Posted January 2, 200619 yr comment_150820 Hi all.Im from New Zealand and have had a Zed and ZX fetish since i was 13. Ive owned a few ZX's over the last 10yrs or so,and love them.Always wanted a 240 or 260 but never had the money or was never jhonny on the spot when i did have it. Recently i met a nice guy through the NZ datsun site and he had a JDM 77 fairlady Z for sale(260z),i got it for a song i think. It has a G nose whic was a bonus. Im currently stripping it down for a good rust removal, which it has very little of,being a panelbeater/painter for near on 20yrs,im surprised:cross-eye This is the second JDM Fairlady Z ive owned, the other was a 79 with the ZX shape but the l20e engine, and this 77 is alot straighter. SO its going to also get the better spare l28e i have sitting in my garage, and maybe a stroking is in order for it,since the restore will take me about 4mths or there abouts, thats something i need to learn about as i know little of engine rebuilding or modding. Anyways, cheers for having a site for the freaks among us and all the newly addicted Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18444-how-goes-itand-happy-new-year/ Share on other sites
January 3, 200619 yr comment_150874 Bonus G nose, that aint bad. Is it a 5 piece one?Stroking a L28 isn't for the faint hearted. If you dont know much about engine building and are planning to do it yourself, you might want to leave it to a professional engine builder, But I'm all for having a go yourself (I do) so dont let me put you off.Theres a few sites that tell you what you need and how to do it.At least LD28 cranks are easy to come by in NZ. Theres one on Trade me for $150 at the moment.I hear bolting the turbo gear off a L20ET onto a L28 is a cheap alternative for more horsepower. January 3, 200619 yr Author comment_150883 Heya Mr C That G nose looks to be a 2 piece from what i saw today, its in pretty good shape, nothing a bit of fibreglass wont fix,but man id love to get my hands on the last panelbeater:finger:,in some places there was a half inch of bog,for no reason other than to fill the space from his shitty attempts at plating...urgggh ,took it back to steel on maybe 30% of it,just have to worry about finding window rubbers now as i didnt want to risk taking out the glass,so i just cut the rubbers in the back,nd willtake out the dash and screen then its a bare shell inside. Yeah i know theres alot of work that i could never do,like crack test the head and block (sonic testing on block also),custom head gasket...but i can manage most the bolt on stuff.Ive only ever stripped engines down not build em back up. You can use the turbos from a L20et,but they are pretty small, and id rather justify the conversion with something a bit bigger, like a z31 turbo.Ever since this drifting started getting popular, the price of nissan parts went right up,,wonder why. I know the stroker will be expensive, being that i wanted to go to SU's and boot the EFI on the 260,and turbo the ZX....... And so it begins Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18444-how-goes-itand-happy-new-year/#findComment-150883 Share on other sites
