Daves Possible Parking light FIX

Just wanted to throw in these guys as a possible source for connectors. If you scroll down the linked page a couple of clicks you will see the heading

Partnumber: 1204

Wiring Harness Plug Kit Photo attached

And while this is for a kit, they do state later in the description "Some plugs sold open stock."

Here is the link http://www.datsunparts.com/Electrical

They specialize in Datsun Roadster parts, but it seems possible some of the connectors may be applicable to 240Z's.

Well, if you're willing to buy a similar thing from VB or MSA, where you know you'll bre paying retail, Whatever price Dave will charge is probably a great deal, especially considering how bad the VB headlight relay system is. ;)

As I missed the chance to get one of Dave's headlight relay system I am looking for other resources before I will try to construct one myself from the instructions sheet.

Now I hear people say that the VB relay system is a bad system, what are the flaws in VB's system?

They're more of a pain in the tookus than any thing else. The plugs on the V.B. harness plug into your headlight, not the harness. Which means you have to dismantle the headlight bucket (we all know how much fun that is) then you have to figure out how to put a 1.5" plug thru a 5/8" hole.

Their harness has bright yellow protective tubing that stands out like a sore thumb and the wires are not that much bigger than stock wires (almost pointless) the list goes on.

Here's the pic.

Sounds outstanding from my viewpoint. Based on the ingenuity and quality of your 240Z headlite relay system, I would place an order before you even finished development. I would love to get brighter dash lites since I tried to remove and bypass the dimmer switch but my aging body and not so nimble finger tips prevented me from getting access to remove it.

Keep up the great ideas and also a great product!

I don't see where this is intended to improve the dash lights. It's for the marker/parking and tail lights.

Have you even been reading these forums? The dash lights are the FIRST lights in the parking light system. When you turn the switch(headlight switch) to the first position, the dash lights come on, as do the parking lights.

When you add power to the system (the way that my harness does) you INCREASE the light output of the bulbs in the dash and in all the parking lights as well as the side markers.

Hope that answers your question,

Dave

  • 2 weeks later...

Just a FYI--

When I went to Napa to get some 5 amp fuses for my headlight fuse box fuses, they were out, so I got 4 amp which they had; haven't had any problems with the 4 amps....this has got to be one of the best upgrades I've ever done on my Z. Sending my MO for the running light upgrade today!!!

Looks like the complete kit, headlights(pic 2), parking lights(pics 1, 3, 4) and also the diode( pic 5) for an internally regulated alternator.

The parking light relay kit, see if it's a 6 pin connector or 9 pin. 9 pin would be for a car with intermittent wipers.

There might be one piece missing, not critical. It would be for the terminal end plug for the headlight kit.
