Posted January 4, 200619 yr comment_151052 On the Mythbuster show (Discovery Channel) Sunday night there was a white S30 used to test how fast you could get a HotWheels car to go. They jacked up the back, covered a tire with tape to make it smooth, and mounted a hotwheels car to an arm-thing. Then the arm was held so the wheels on the little car were in contact with the Z tire. How fast? The Hotwheels car survived up to 75 MPG before the axles broke. The reason of this was to test the myth that a HotWheels going on a track downhill, could out-accelerate a Dodge Viper (both coasting) in a 1/4 mile downhill drag race. The result was that the HotWheels did go faster for about the first 50 feet, then the Viper caught up, and won with an easy 100 feet difference. How'd anybody ever even THINK of something like that??thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18466-z-car-on-mythbusters/ Share on other sites
January 4, 200619 yr comment_151066 Sorry I missed that one. I love that show. It looks like they do most of their filming here in the SF Bay Area. Mostly East Bay it seems. They must be in the Berkely or Alameda area. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18466-z-car-on-mythbusters/#findComment-151066 Share on other sites
January 4, 200619 yr comment_151068 Sorry I missed that one. I love that show. That was an old episode. From what I can tell the 280Z belongs to Scottie Chapman. I think we've talked about it here before. It looks like they do most of their filming here in the SF Bay Area. Mostly East Bay it seems. They must be in the Berkely or Alameda area.Much of the work is done in the shop at M5 Industries in SF. http://www.m5industries.com/html/MAP.htmThey seem to go over to Alameda when they need a lot of space. January 7, 200619 yr comment_151352 For those of you who haven't seen it yet, Microsoft now offers a mapping program similar to Google maps that provides both maps and satellite images. It takes this one step further, however, and offers low-altitude aerial photographs of certain cities in the US. You can even view the aerial photographs from all four compass directions. They literally took multiple photographs from different angles.http://local.live.comWhen looking in San Francisco at the offices of M5 I actually was able to spot the white 280Z in question. Here's the direct link to that image:http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=37.750605~-122.395487&style=o&lvl=2&scene=1223181 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18466-z-car-on-mythbusters/#findComment-151352 Share on other sites

January 7, 200619 yr comment_151357 Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be as smart as the Google maps or cover as much territory. However, I'm sure that will improve with time. Once again, I've gotta give the Pirate of the Year award to Microsoft. When are they going to come up with a innovative new idea of their own?
