I hooked up a pertronix ignitor, a MSD 6al, a blaster 2 coil and I am not getting any spark. Are there any reasons that might contribute to this?

I have never used either, but i always thought (maybe i'm wrong though) that you used EITHER the pertronix OR the msd, not both?? If so, that may explain it. Hope someone else who runs either system chimes into help you out, good luck! Jeremiah

I'm running the petronix, It's used in place of points and condensor, and all of it fits under distrib cap. Not sure what the MSD's purpose in life is, but the petronix alone, with a high voltage coil, should be enough. Hope this helps.......

Try one at a time. I find that if you get back to a working state... and start adding pieces slowly that you will find the problem.

You can run the Pertronix with the MSD equipment.. I have it on my 240 and it works just fine. You must have the MSD tach adaptor to use the stock tach though. If you just have no spark after installing all of this equipment, sounds like you have something wired wrong. Get out the meter and make sure you have voltage where it is supposed to be and the wires connected properly. The MSD will provide tons of spark, once it is correctly wired. The pertronix ignitor will run dead on without maintenance practically forever. Ran a set in my last gas powered boat engines for thousand of hours with no maintenance ever.

If you can't figure it out, do as mike advises and go back to original and add back on piece at a time.

The Pertronix ignitor replaces the breaker points.

The MSD is an acronym for Multi-Spark-Discharge.

It improves power, quickens throttle response, smooths idle and makes for easier starting. It also reduces spark plug fouling, reduces emissions and improves gas mileage. Ok, I know that sounds like an ad... well it came from theMSD web site.

What it does is provide multiple sparks for each normal spark. This helps the fuel/air mixture to burn more efficiently, resulting in all the above benefits.

It needs some type of ignitor, either breaker points (not recommended) or something like the Pertronix.

Double check the wiring. Make sure you have a ballast resister (if required) hooked up. Make sure the paddles in the distributor are set and the optical trigger is aligned and adjusted. I know from experience how easy it is to get the wrong wire to the positive side of the coil.
