Posted January 10, 200619 yr comment_151678 I have a set of new Panasport Wheels that I want to have polished. Who does this polishing? I just need the lip polished. How much do they charge? January 10, 200619 yr comment_151680 Since shipping wheels is expensive, you want to find someone local. I know that there are several polishers in the Eugene area, probably several near Salem as well. Talk to the wheel people at a local tire shop - they'll know who does it in your area. January 10, 200619 yr comment_151682 They actually look good to me already. The lip part is the easiest to do. Have you thought about doing them yourself? January 10, 200619 yr Author comment_151684 You mean work on the wheels? DIY? I want them done professionally and sealed with clear. I have access to a lathe and the time but no interest. I did the polishing of my aluminum and magnesium wheels for 20 years when I raced. I do not feel the need anymore to DIY wheel polishing. It takes too long to get the 'black' out from under my nails! Heh, heh! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18522-who-in-the-nw-polishes-wheels/#findComment-151684 Share on other sites
January 10, 200619 yr comment_151685 What can I use to polish the lip? Any good products? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18522-who-in-the-nw-polishes-wheels/#findComment-151685 Share on other sites
January 10, 200619 yr comment_151686 It takes too long to get the 'black' out from under my nails! Heh, heh!Hey, I used a "liquid glove" product when I did the same with mine. Works great. However, I can certainly appreciate just paying someone else to do the work. January 10, 200619 yr Author comment_151687 I think polishing them by hand is long, hard work. These Panansport Wheels have a machined surface. They need to be turned and sanded and polished and painted. If you polish them and do not seal them, you will have to do it over and over again. When you are 25, no problem. When you are 65, big problem! I will ask around in Salem. I will check with the tire/wheel guys. January 10, 200619 yr comment_151692 Well then since you are so "old" maybe you dont need to be driving anymore and sit on your collective "duff" and collect social security now......... just kidding please dont take offense.I am by no means young nor old but since the condition of your wheels are well pretty clean and without pitting polishing them wouldnt be that hard for you to do.Simple steps of wet sanding and microfine steel wool will bring out such a shine on that lip, I know Ive done it several times with other wheels. Then you could take them to your local painter and have them clear coated, though I must say powder coated would be better and they do have it in clean. As a matter of fact I know of a place down south that does the polishing and powdercoating as well, here is the website.http://www.technacolor.com/Theyre work seems first class and theyre quality looks really well on they parts that they have already done. January 10, 200619 yr comment_151701 well an easy way would be one of those Mother brand polishing balls...I'm going to try one this summer on my aluminum wheels.I don't recommend this link, just for pictures...found on google in like 3 seconds...http://www.properautocare.com/mopo1.htmlYou need a power drill, but hey, with Harbor Freight, everyone should have a good drill, huh?**edit--after thinking about it, don't get me wrong--this isn't a substitute for getting a pro job done...more for someone looking for a quick way to just polish their wheels like once a summer after a good clean, like if you're waxing, something like that.Everyone have a good week, Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18522-who-in-the-nw-polishes-wheels/#findComment-151701 Share on other sites
January 10, 200619 yr comment_151715 So who did all the polishing on the motor? Your intakes took SOMEONE a very long time to do, and I am speaking from experience. If you didn't do them can I ask how much you paid someone else to do them? I am putting a set on ebay soon and wonder what I will get for all my effort. steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18522-who-in-the-nw-polishes-wheels/#findComment-151715 Share on other sites
January 11, 200619 yr Author comment_151723 BoostedZ: Hey, I live for my Social Security. I buy all of my toys with S/S money. Every month I get the $1011 check deposited into my account and I SPEND it on my cars. I lived a long time and paid the GOV for my S/S checks. Now that I am old enough to get 'em, I cannot wait to spend the money. I am currently broke because I spent December's check on a golf trip to St. George, Utah. We will be gone for 11 days in April. WhooHah! I am having a 3-carb-SU unit built by ZTherapy and it will take all of Jan and Feb! It's kinda fun having another check to spend each month. Mine, all Mine!
