omega Z Posted January 13, 2006 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2006 I have a 71 240z, it loses power even if I push the accelerator to the floor then eventually it goes dead. If I wait about 5 to 10 minutes it will starts and run very good. I have had a tune up, relaced the gas filter and the problem still exist.. Has anyone ever had this problem. Thanks omega z:
dhoneycutt Posted January 13, 2006 Share #2 Posted January 13, 2006 Sounds like it might be a possible clogged or partially clogged fuel line or inlet line in the fuel tank. Any rust in the tank?
kenz240z Posted January 14, 2006 Share #3 Posted January 14, 2006 Yeah, check for rust in the tank. Also, check all the rubber fuel lines. If they are old, there could be a split in one that allows the fuel pump to suck in some air. Might be a good idea to replace all the rubber fuel lines. The pump itself could also be bad, maybe a ruptured diaphram? You also might try blowing compressed air through the hard line to check for any blockages. You might consider temporarily putting in one of those glass fuel filters so you can check for air bubbles in the fuel as the engine is running. Have a helper run the engine at a higher rev with a foot on the brake while you watch the glass filter. This puts a load on the engine and might help you duplicate a fuel starvation problem. You can blow some air through the fuel line to the tank incase the line is partally blocked . If you are having particles blocking the filters or lines you need to remove the tank and have it serviced. One more thing , there are screens in the inlets of the SUs from the factory , maybe if thair still in there remove them .
