26th-z, Les and I had lunch with Jonnie Gable (Mr K's secretary) last week and got the news at the same time.

Les and I are thinking of flying out....There is a good chance that Gerry Mason will make it...I am sure it will be a good event. So many people that used to work for Nissan out here work for Mazda, go figure.

There will be some great cars there! and we wanted to join you guys for a great east coast west coast thing. Dang it!!

I will keep in touch as we get this figured out.

As much as I hate to say it, the headquarters move to Tennesee kind of makes sense, don't they have a rather large production facility there? I'm pretty sure that's where my pick-up was made.

I'd frankly be surprised if Gerry runs his BRE at the Mitty, especially if he gets this news. From what I can tell, he's very involved with his GT2 300ZX.

Preith,

Gerry said he would come out to this event, it is not that far for him to tow and his dad Gerry Senior would be able to make it as he winters in FLA. With the current situation it is anyones guess....

As for moving their headquarters...well there are relationships that have been in place in southern california for 40 years that Nissan is walking away from. It is Cheaper long term to move to Tennessee, and they do have their factory facilities there for the Armada's and Titans.

Motorsport is looking to go NASCRAP truck racing and where better to be than in the south....

I'll be on the lookout for you guys. I'll definitely be there on Saturday and maybe on Sunday.

As for Nissan and NASCAR it seems following the route of Toyota is what they've demeaned themselves to. The Titan is a nice truck though and there is money to be made in that market. Does Nissan sponsor any appreciably sized 350Z sport car racing team other than in drift?

They don't even sponsor drift. Its all independant. Performance Nissan and Schuitemaker Motorsports both ran Zs in Grand AM, but I've seen Schuitemakers cars for sale in Autoweek lately, and I think Performance has scaled way back too.

As for the move to Tennessee, Autoweek speculated that they may lose as much as 70% of their US staff. Nissan seems to think 40-45% though. They mentioned how Toyota and Hyundai are hiring in socal now, and people don't want to move.

Actually, they make Altimas, Maximas, Xterras and Frontiers in Tennessee. They make Armadas, Titans, Quests, and more Altimas in Mississippi. Sentras are made in Mexico and everything else (Z's and Infinities) comes from Japan.
