I don't think anyone (here) knows for sure why they pulled out...We can guess that they are looking to save money with their current move coming up.

Sponsorship is a difficult thing, Nissan has to look at this as a business proposition. We will be promoting Datsun, and Nissan was, but is no longer is Datsun so they are conflicted..Nissan spent lots of money in the 80's to get away from the Datsun name....This is a typical problem, they are looking to sell NISSAN not DATSUN and they are looking for the best ways to do that. Vintage racing to them has DATSUN written all over it...not NISSAN. Its a tough sell to get Nissan to sponsor a vintage event for that simple reason.

It is rumored that the Georgia Z club was looking to put together a tent like what they used to do for the SCCA ARRC back in the day with a bunch of Datsun's under the tent, and then out on the track...That would be awesome!

From the Georgia Z Club newsletter that arrived today:

"Georgia Z Club (not Nissan) will be a marquee sponsor. We will have our own 30x50 foot tent just like the other Japanese manufacturers."

Let me know if you have any questions and I can bring them up at the meeting next Tuesday evening.

In looking through recent history of Nissan event involvement, it appears if an event wants Nissan to actively participate, any automotive relationship is last on the list of their criteria. Nissan seems to respond only to invitations to golf and marathon events-they aren't car guys, they are car manufacturers-just like the people that work in so many automotive parts businesses! They still talk the talk on their website-links to history ,thinking, and suck, but they can't deny they don't walk the walk.

Maybe if we turned the Mitty into the Gonzalles Memorial Golf Championship, and the Gonzalles Run on Atlanta...and hid the car stuf deep in the blurb...

I edited out most of this post...

But "Love Cars, Love People, Love Life" is only talk.

"Car Crazy" is proof of what happens when you love something directly related to what you manufacture.

WIll

Lets not let forget that every Datsun has Nissan under the skin...

That is great news!

Hector is a great guy and a good friend. I wish we all could have found a solution to get out there with our cars...Guys I want to thank you for all your support. I am sorry, it is just too much $$$ for me to handle to ship my car out there and back for this event....

I tried everything I could to make it happen and its just not in the cards this year. Mazda will be the title sponsor for the next 3 years...We will keep working on a solution, but I think we will be looking at next year at the earliest.

I have such an understanding wife! I don't know how, but I missed all the info on this race weekend and just saw the flier today. I checked with the boss and she was able to find someone to look after the kids while she works this weekend, so I'll be there. I'll drive up on Friday night and be there first thing on Saturday morning. I'm looking forward to the six hour drive from the Florida Panhandle. It's been over a year since I took the green machine on a good road trip. I wonder if I'll be able to park in the coral? Anyway, I look forward to seeing you all there.

Cheers,
