So I am finally just about ready to drop some $$$ on replacing what could very well be the original 33yr old struts in my 240... to tell you they are beat doesn't quite capture the sorry state they're in... hahaha

I'vve hunted around on Japanese sites and seen that with respect to front brake upgrades some people are changing their strut casings out for the larger diameter ZX units... If I am going to get new struts and am thinking there's a possibility I may do a brake upgrade as well in the future which would warrant this I figure I should get the right struts now...

How do you all feel about this?

I've had great results with Konis in the past and at just under $300 a pair I may very well go that route again this time around...

I've got an email to Ground Control right now that I'm waiting for a reply on.

Jay and I came up with a fantastic setup on my last car - granted it was almost exclusively a track car which the Z isn't but their advice was priceless... We'll see what their $0.02 amount to as well...

Thanks.

The ZX strut has the spindle at a different angle. This means that when you install it on an S30 the camber will be way off. IIRC its gives you more positive camber. Not good. You can fix that if you have adjustable lower control arms and TC rods. I seem to recall that there is too much positive camber for even a camber plate to get rid of. If you don't have all adjustable suspension I wouldn't do it.

If you're just looking for a thicker (heavier) strut housing for some reason, the 280Z has the heavier tube thickness that the ZX does.

One more thing, the ZX brakes are smaller diameter than the S30. Vented yes, but also smaller.

Hey Eric,

Do you want to race your 240 or something like that. I've had my stock 73 since 76 I can't say that I remember ever wishing that I had better brakes. I've got an 81zx too and I never really felt that it stopped better. Now if this is just a project that you just always wanted to do I know how that can be. Go for it. The biggest advantage I can see from a project like you are describing is that you'd end up with the softer springs that the zx has so you'd have a smoother ride, something I'd even consider.
