Barrett Jackson Auction, Scottsdale

Recommended Posts

I was at the BJ auction yesterday in Scottsdale (Friday) admiring all of the great old muscle cars; vettes, GTOs, Chevelles, etc, and am wondering when the first vintage 240Z will go for auction for the big bucks these other cars go for! Oh well, maybe just a pipe dream ... :ermm:

There is part of that is glad the 240Z remains affordable and out of the spotlight. Our cars are special, and yet still remain within reach of us mere mortals neither able nor willing to spend the equivalent of a small single family home on a muscle car. Yup… sometimes remaining in the shadows is a good thing.

if you do a search at the B -J site .. you will find z's that are for sale and have sold. From memory , there was one there that sold for big bucks .. I cant remember how much tho. I think B- J can get big bucks for most cars.

You notice the BJ parking sign on the highway going in? They really should be more explicit with their wording, if you know what I mean. I was there Tuesday and still can't believe some of the prices. Last year there was 3 Z's at BJ. I'm trying to remember, but at least one of them went for more that $20,000. This year, BTW, not one Z.

I just ran a search, the most expensive 240Z sold on Barrett-Jackson was$75,600. It was completely original, not that great of a picture.

The other one was $22,680. <img src="http://www.barrett-jackson.com/images/carjpg/2005bjcca/2/617/2005BJCCA2_617_34.jpg">, here's the motor <img src="http://www.barrett-jackson.com/images/carjpg/2005bjcca/2/617/2005BJCCA2_617_Eng.jpg">

Go 72!!! I just bought an old issue of the OCT 2005 issue of CAR COLLECTOR magazine and they did a study and review of the Z car and of course classiczcar.com and zhome.com have been mentioned too! In a nutshell, the price appreciation for the 69-73 models have been rising a thousand dollars a year and have never deppreciated since. Market value is now $9000! These were gauged on an average state Z. So hold on to your Z's. Don't worry duffman, time will come. :)

....but I've never heard of one going for $75.000.00! Can someone confirm theianmonster's claim???

That is a typo on B-J's part. If you look further through their records you'll note the same car (same pic and same vin) sold a year or two later for less than $7,500 (I think it was $6K IIRC)

a $75K 240Z is a complete wet-dream fantasy, and will be for many years to come.
