Help please

The previous owner of my car decided to put silicone around the seals of the windows and targa tops instead of replacing the seals. I now have a problem of bits of silicone on my chrome trimming parts. Does anyone know the best way to remove the silicone (which has been there for at least a few years) so I can clean and polish up the chrome?

Somtimes a soft gum eraser with light pressure can help break it loose depending on the grade of silicone and if you can get to it. But I have never done it on chrome just glass and metal.

Use Autosol - its by far the best chrome/metal polish I've ever used. It should also remove your silicone residue.

Cheers guys, I will try a few of them tonight. I too have used and use Autosol but may just have to use a bit more elbow grease.

the same thing happened to me. although i royally ****ed my chrome getting some of it off, go with the other guys' ideas.

No laquer thinners. You will really mess it up that way!

Can't say for sure whether it would work but, I've cleaned paint residue off of brass window handles and softened Estapol on fishing rod runners by soaking them in Lemon juice or Lime juice for a couple of hours, then used a stiff bristled brush (NOT WIRE). The juice contains a very mild acid. Don't forget to rinse thoroughly with water.

If you try it, I'd be interested to know how you get on.
