Posted January 23, 200619 yr comment_153183 The previous owner of my car decided to put silicone around the seals of the windows and targa tops instead of replacing the seals. I now have a problem of bits of silicone on my chrome trimming parts. Does anyone know the best way to remove the silicone (which has been there for at least a few years) so I can clean and polish up the chrome? January 24, 200619 yr comment_153190 Somtimes a soft gum eraser with light pressure can help break it loose depending on the grade of silicone and if you can get to it. But I have never done it on chrome just glass and metal. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18655-help-please/#findComment-153190 Share on other sites
January 24, 200619 yr comment_153217 Use Autosol - its by far the best chrome/metal polish I've ever used. It should also remove your silicone residue. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18655-help-please/#findComment-153217 Share on other sites

January 24, 200619 yr comment_153263 G'Day Hayden,Can't say for sure whether it would work but, I've cleaned paint residue off of brass window handles and softened Estapol on fishing rod runners by soaking them in Lemon juice or Lime juice for a couple of hours, then used a stiff bristled brush (NOT WIRE). The juice contains a very mild acid. Don't forget to rinse thoroughly with water. If you try it, I'd be interested to know how you get on.Rick.:devious: :devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18655-help-please/#findComment-153263 Share on other sites
