Posted January 25, 200619 yr comment_153431 I am transplanting an '83 L28 into my '71. I want to use all of the original wiring for the '71. I just talked to MSA about getting a new Nissan oil pressure sending unit. They said the Z ones are NLA and they wanted to sell me the roadster unit. This would require hacking up my wriring to install an eyelet style connector, which is what the roadster unit uses. Is that true, or is there somewhere to source the correct 240Z Sender? I would rather not cut up the wiring harness if I don't have to.I have also heard the aftermarket units are crap too.TIA,Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18676-oil-pressure-sender-nla/ Share on other sites
January 25, 200619 yr comment_153433 Hi Marty, Did you try your Nissan Dealer? I got one a year ago with the proper bullet connector, even came with the nifty black rubber cover. Much luck, Chris A. January 25, 200619 yr Author comment_153436 I recently got a quote from a dealer on a long list of parts. Unfortunately, I forgot to add that one on there, duh! I was ordereing other stuff from MSA this afternoon and figured I would get a quote while I was talking with them.I'll call the dealer back. That would seem like a pretty crucial part to not make any more. glad to hear they may be available. Thanks!Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18676-oil-pressure-sender-nla/#findComment-153436 Share on other sites
January 25, 200619 yr comment_153454 while trying to remove the OEM unit, it snapped off at the block.i picked up a new unit and was surprised with the different style connector. fortunately, there was enough meat left on the OEM unit so i drilled out the snapped portion and was able to 'repair' the sender. i didn't use the new type, but if i did, i thought i would just make a short jumper wire with the two different types of connectors to bridge the connection.i wouldn't even think of hacking up my harness just in case i came across an OEM unit someday. why not just do that.hope this helps. January 26, 200619 yr comment_153475 Marty, you may also want to check Victoria British..they list one (item #71-600) for 20 bucks that fits 1971-Feb 1977 Zs and one for 40 bucks (71-602) for 78-83Z/ZX.Good luck,Steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18676-oil-pressure-sender-nla/#findComment-153475 Share on other sites

One male "bullet" connector, 3" wire, and One Eyelet connector. Assemble them, and then plug your OEM "female" bullet into the male connector of the adaptor that you just made, and attach the eyelet of the adaptor to the roadster oil sender. This is what I did when I took someone's advice that the Roadster sender was more "accurate" than the OEM Z sender. Are the bullet connectors readily available then?Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18676-oil-pressure-sender-nla/#findComment-153576 Share on other sites

January 27, 200619 yr comment_153626 Yes, as Vic and mlc240z say, you can find the terminals you'd need in many places. Very common connectors. BTW, since the wiring is so near the engine (subject to a good amount of vibration), I cut off the sleeving that came on the terminals then crimped AND soldered all the connections using shrink tubing to finish off the pigtail. This may not be necessary, but I now KNOW that the connections aren't going to fail and scare the bejeezus out of me some cold morning.
