Determining paint code

G'Day Dewayne,

I wanted to maintain my cars original colour, so asked the local Nissan dealer if they could tell me the original colour code.

They said they needed the engine number and body number, and came back to me the next day with the code.

For what it's worth,

Rick.

Yes. I bought it. Decided to save a 240z. Walking around Z Atlanta almost brings you to tears seeing all those older Z's bent up and mangled. Sad sight to see. Doing my part to save and not crush. LOL.

so its that one we talked about, rust and all????

Yep. The owner cut me break ($500.) and through in some very nice wheels. Floor boards, hood, hatch and front fenders are on order. I am going to gut it out. And get it media blasted. L24 purs very nicely. Want to help take a rust bucket apart?:classic:

Remove the ash tray and look at the paint on the transmission hump under the console. But, as has already been stated, it looks like you have already determined that the car was originally orange. A great color, by the way, but then my opinion is biased!!!

Did this. And it is orange. Car was painted 918 orange.

Hey pimp1911, I was in the same situation you were.

When I got my Z it was red. One day I noticed the inside of my toolboxes were orange, so I started doing some checking.

The engine bay was painted black like yours, I guess the orange bay would look funky with the red exterior. Later on I realized it was undercoating. Really thick, about 10 cans worth, on everything. If you look close, you can see the inspection light. (the black blob)

It was a gooey mess, but a few cans of gunk and a lot of scrubbing, the real color started to show through. I pulled the motor, cleaned, prepped and repainted the bay. I was able to get the Orange 918 paint code through Dupont (Centari) for the engine bay and Glassurit B/C for the body.

The 918 Orange is a great color and the B/C looks fabulous in the sun.

Good luck, Doug

Hey Ken, I spent about a week removing all that mess.

On the good side, there was no rust at all in the engine compartment, even the batt. tray was perfect.

I would spray a can of Gunk in the bay, let it sit in the sun for a few minutes and then scrub away. The 1st few times I went to the car wash. I got as much out as possible, but realized I would have to pull the motor to do it right.

It took about 10 cans of gunk to finish it up. After all that was done I threw the switch on the trouble light and it actually lit up...
