As for your other question, Garth, the only thing that made me think that it could be factory was the location of his evaporator box. But then when I thought about it, it's the 810s and the Maximas that have the box in the passenger footwell. Good call Moonpup, I guess we both missed that. I'm going to be quiet now until I see some pictures.:stupid:

The little canister I'm talking about is about the size of a Coke can and has a small round glass "window" on top of it.

Me too. I am certainly NOT an expert on this by any means. But I am an interested observer.

Here's some pics of what I believe to be a Nissan Distributor(not a dealer) installed AC system in my '73 240Z. Also, I have a '73 owner's manual which references 240Zs w/AC in tables for vehicle stopping distance, recommended tire size/inflation, and aceleration and passing ability.

Here are the pictures. The Coke can how-ya-doin' looks to be the same as what Zguy circled on his pic. The a/c unit says "Sankyo" on top of it.

That's aftermarket. The main giveaway is the barrier hoses with clamps rather than machined hoses for the high and low side lines. Also the Sankyo compressor is aftermarket and they are still available today under the name Sanden. They bought out Sankyo some time back. That's a nice install compared to the usual York system that was so commonly used back then. The evaporator box does look almost 'factory'. The best way to take care of the hole that will be left when you remove the evaporator box would be to go the junkyard and get another blower motor housing. Thanks for the pictures Pete and Adam. The equipment pictured yesterday(2/10) is definitely dealer installed, It is very simular to the kit sold by Motorsports except Motorsport uses a rotory compresser rather than the old York, it also uses "O" ring fittings and 134 rather than freon 12.

That's the same switch, mounted in the same location as my aftermarket "frigette" A/C I removed a couple of years ago. I did keep some of the paperwork.

Check you those labor charges circa 1972!!!

BTW, the A/C system in my car is non-functional and missing the compressor and condenser. I don't need it where I live anyway so I have removed the rec/dryer and will probably remove the evap at some point in the future to give the passenger some more leg room.
