L 24 engine

NY " Z "

Who pissed in your Cheerio's that morning. Not one single person on this furom or site is a DATSUN GOD, So lay off a little. If any one around here knows Datsun/Nissan History, It's Carl Beck!

What are "Cheerio's"? Do you have a part number for them? Are they a USA-market only fitment? Perhaps a picture would help........ :)

"Lay off a little"? Lay off who? You seem to have overlooked the fact that the person getting laid into on this thread was me. Am I not allowed to defend myself?

Here's a little reminder for us all:

The exact identity of member 'NY "Z" 's car has yet to be determined. He mentioned that it was a '1972' model - but it would also appear that the engine was made a lot earlier than that. At this point - without a full VIN number and confirmation of the original intended market - anything is possible. Never say never, and don't bet all your chips that a 'European' market LHD car won't turn up in one of these kinds of questions one day. Keep your mind open to the idea that the S30-series Z is a Japanese car that was sold all over the world, and beware of false prophets.

So tell me, precisely how was my posting of page from a Nissan Export-market parts list for the '240Z' and '260Z' illustrating a Factory oil cooler kit "inaccurate"? There's an awful lot of ***umption going on here.

Let me get this straight......I take to task someone who used an inaccurate illustration (and a self-described flippant remark) as the sole support of his argument to 'counter' another members post, the same someone who portrays himself to have quite a bit of knowledge and a "pretty big archive of data" available to him and someone who I therefore feel (right or wrong) should be held to a higher standard, and I'm the instigator/bad guy. Fine I can accept that.

I'm glad that you now accept that you are the "instigator/bad guy", but you still seem to be under the impression that the llustration I posted was "inaccurate" LOL .

Again I remind you that the car in question has still not been positively identified, and at this point ALL information relating to oil coolers - whether Factory or 'aftermarket' is relevant and on topic. Even if the car in question turns out to be a true red-white-and-blue HLS30U and have an oil cooler from J.C Whitney, The Pep Boys or indeed 'Datsun Competition', ALL oil cooler references, data and illustrations are relevant.

Let me break this down for you. An illustration was used by you that merely showed an S30, an oil cooling system and a valve cover among other things.

1 - An L24 was the topic of discussion and this clearly was not a L24 valve cover. (This suggested that the oil system shown might be for another engine.)

2 - Now pay attention here because this part is very important. No text stating that this was an L24 oil cooling system was printed on the illustration nor was any supplied by yourself at the time of your post. (For thousands of individuals that have never seen a factory system, how are they supposed to know it was for an L24 engine without some kind of text explaining it or an illustration 'correctly' linking it to a L24 engine?

3 - And finally your own words....see below

I'm sorry, but all this still adds up to inaccurate in my book.

There are lots of examples of what you might call 'inaccuracies' in the Factory literature. If you have any of the Factory 'R-Drive' parts lists you can spot plenty. They are there in the parts lists and Factory manuals for the HLS30U too. Ask your local expert.

The actual oil cooler kit and its related componentry are in bold print on the page I posted. Those are the parts that are the subject of the page, and those are the parts that you are supposed to pay attention to. Everything else is just for context. The part number quoted in the file's name should have told you something too........

You will notice that the faint line drawing of the S30-series Z that this is superimposed on is not 100% 'accurate' in all details ( surprise surprise ). How seriously do you want to take this? Do you actually think that missing items such as front side repeaters, hubcaps, rubber bumper trims and other such details matter? Maybe the lack of these in the illustration would have misled you too?

Just face it 'moonpup' - you went off half-cocked and now you are not waving, but drowning. When you had doubts about the application of the parts illustrated you should have raised a question about them, instead of launching into a personal attack on me for what you call my "agenda". If the illustration had have been related to the S20 engine, then you would have had me on the hook. Its a shame you didn't play your cards a little more cleverly. "Softly, softly, catchee monkey......".

You are hoist by your own Petard, sir.

Oop's.....I believe you just let a little of your own petard/agenda slip out!

"Just"? That was an internet-age ago now.

Generally speaking, I think its a good thing that you are now re-reading what I wrote a couple of days ago ( that is, presuming you actually read it the first time around ). Maybe you are now starting to get your head around it too?

But all you are doing is proving that your sole intention in joining this thread was to action your own agenda, whilst accusing me of having one of my own.

On another note, the forums are much more pleasant to read if you add the hardcore flame war people to your "Ignore List".

There are certain members of this club/site/whatever who, while they have clearly forgotten more than I will ever know about the Datsun Z cars, have never, to my knowledge, contributed anything useful here, but pick fights constantly... No names... I don't want a fight. (Besides, I wouldn't see your post anyway if you are on my list.)

If you "ignore" them their posts are always hidden, and instantly the world is a happier place.

I had not noticed this thread until yesterday. Thanks for four lovely pages of entertainment and information. Thanks Alan, for posting the parts book image. I added it to my book and will write you privately for the part number information associated with it. I would like to compare part numbers and I want one of the fancy oil cooler covers with the buckles - how great. Thanks Carl, for referencing the various dates of publication for the competition parts information. Indeed an "authority" is right here in our back yard. Hope to see you for lunch Saturday.

For most of the rest of you, I should point out that there are a number of people who collect "literature" and bathe in the unique luxury of historical study associated with our cars. I am one of them. Carl is one of them. Alan is one of them, and I can think of half-a-dozen more. I would not go anywhere near as far as to say that one particular individual knows all. We are all quite specialized. We have thousands invested in our libraries and they form a significant resource for those of us interested in fully understanding the history of Nissan and the Z. Had the initial post been encouraged to submit pictures, we could have had a look at some rare parts. Instead you guys turned this into a flame and the door of opportunity closed. Thanks.
