March 1, 200619 yr Author comment_157731 I would be interested in the tire, Gary. It is by no means useable other than show. Her Majesty came with Bridgestones and Princess came with Toyos. Do an archive search - there is a thread by Kats about original tires. What do you think it would cost to send it to Sarasota, Florida 34236? PM me and we'll chat.I came back to edit this after you mentioned the date code, Arne. Yea, for the strick connoisseur, the date code is vital. But hell, I figure anyone is just fortunate to see one at all. I DO know guys, however, with correct tires that they show with.ChrisHello Chris,I did as you suggested and read Kats thread - thanks for that link. I also PM'd you estimated shipping weights and dimensions several days ago. Since I have not heard from you, I'm wondering if that PM came through? Gary S. March 2, 200619 yr comment_157750 Following 26th Z's suggestion, I read the thread started by Kats, linked here: http://classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5065&page=2Replies 24-27 of the aforementioned thread show the Bridgestone Super Speed Radial-20, which is the tire I have. Unlike Arne's DOT XXX... example, this tire has the DOT script standing alone. As suggested by CanTechZ, my tire has the script K7009 on each sidewall, and I believe this indicates the tire was manufactured in the ninth month of 1970. The spare wheel from my car is stamped 10/70. The car's VIN is HLS30-13523, with a build date of 11/70. CanTechZ, if my logic is correct, that would mean your tire was produced in the first month of 1970.Gary S.Hi Guys: As I recall - back in the early 70's - the code stood alone, was required to be only on one side of the tire by FMVSS.K7001 = MYYDD = Month - Year - DayK = Month code: 9th MonthA B C D E F H J K L M N ("G", "I", "O", "Q", "R", "S", "Z" are not used)70 = Year01 = First DayThe original tire spec. for the North American Market was an 175SR14, but because Bridgestone could not supply enough tires to meet the demand from the US market, they started shipping cars with 175HR14's and Toyo Became an additional supplier. For the Series II cars the 175HR14 became the standard tire spec. from both Bridgestone and Toyo.Although the bis-ply tires were listed, and infation pressures given - they were never approved for use in the US by FMVSS. As I recall, the "J" spec. 4.5" and 5" steel rims were FMVSS certified for use with Radial Tires, for the USA.Bridgestone Super Speed Radial 20 175SR1410/69 to about 08/70Bridgestone 175HR14 RADIAL RD-15008/70 to 06/72TOYO 175HR14 RADIAL Z-110/70 to 07/73The above dates - are based on the original tires on our IZCC Original Owners Cars - or the Original Spare in our IZCC Original Owners Cars. So far it is the best data we have. (reports from about 100 of our 150 original owners). I'm sure it is NOT PERFECT... per dates...but thoes are the three standard OEM tires.FWIW,Carl B.Clearwater, FL USAhttp://ZHome.com Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18989-1971-240z-oem-bridgestone-17514-value/?&page=2#findComment-157750 Share on other sites
March 3, 200619 yr comment_157990 Hello all, I have found this thread, I am now asking all of you for this original tire. Is there anyone can exchange your tire for my nice parts collection?I need at least 3 of them,if I am lucky I want to have 4 of them. I am offering 3 rare parts. #1 NOS "clock with a stop watch" in the box.You know this, this is a standard for some Japanese Z like Z432 / 240ZG etc.I do not have an oscilator for this clock.I payed $500 for this Yahoo Japan auction 3 years ago.To be honest,I want to exchange this clock for 2 or 3 tires. #2 A set of 1970 emblems they are ALL METAL Emblem. They are spare emblems of my 240Z.But I would release them for the tire. They are nice condition only easy clean up is required, but rear hatch Datsun is needed to be restore.Rear hatch 240Z is restored already. #3 A set of 1969 to Jan or Feb 1970 Chrome Z METAL EMBLEMS.Rear hatch 240Z is restored,R quater 240Z is stripped for painting. They are very rare to get a set. This tire is what I have been looking for,I only have ONE tire right now.I got one from ebay last year. That tire looks original, not replaced from the original steel wheel, the wheel got 10-1971 5Jx14 stamp on it.The tire got KS682 and KJ5X. Let me know if you can exchange your super speed radial-20.I want good condition tires.Private Message is suitable for avoiding disturb this good thread. March 4, 200619 yr comment_158160 Hi Keith:As Kats seems to have left the area - The 5" wide steel wheels became standard equipment on the Series III (1972 Model Year, Production started 09/71 is reported by Nissan to have started at VIN HLS30 46000 - but a few earlier cars seem to have been built to the Series III spec.)Carl B. March 5, 200619 yr comment_158171 Hi Keith and Carl,I am not sure about that superceeding, but Carl did answer it as I was expecting he did. I posted my rare parts last time, but no one have talk to me yet.Are these parts not special for the early owners?I have to list other parts which can catch the owner's hart.Or I hope some one can sell the tire for me.kats Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18989-1971-240z-oem-bridgestone-17514-value/?&page=2#findComment-158171 Share on other sites
March 26, 200618 yr comment_161041 My '71, which I have had for the last 35 yrs has a Bridgestone 175 as the original spare still in the car. Unfortunately, it does not hold air for long. It has been on the car one time for about 35 miles. March 28, 200618 yr comment_161300 Seems like a lot of us still have our original spares. I still have my original Bridgestone RD-150 in the spare tire well - holds air fine. It's probably been on the ground 3 or 4 times, for just a few miles each time, over the years - the last time was more than 20 years ago. Not sure I would want to drive very fast on it but I could limp home on it if I get a flat ... March 29, 200618 yr comment_161460 I would be willing to part with the spare since I would prefer something more up to date. The car is in WI, and I am in Fl. I am planning to drive it down here in May. I can give you more information about that when I get it down here. I probably will mount a new spare for the trip, as well as new tires since the ones on the car are up in age. I don't plan to do a restoration or show the car. It's a nice rust free, with an uncracked dash and so forth. I'm hoping to get more use out of it since I can keep it at home and not have to put it up for the winter. March 29, 200618 yr comment_161571 Hello JROME,I would also be interested in your tire if it is 175 SR 14 Bridgestone superspeed radial-20.If available,I would like to see the photo of it.Please see another thread which I started up for an advertizmenthttp://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20678Thank you, kats Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18989-1971-240z-oem-bridgestone-17514-value/?&page=2#findComment-161571 Share on other sites
March 30, 200618 yr comment_161729 Thanks Carl for the explanation of the month code. This further helps to date the car. In my case the spare is dated with a K and the doorjamb tag is stamped '08/70'. According to the original owner it was purchased in September 1970 in Honolulu, Hawaii by her father and shipped to San Francisco, Ca. arriving in early October 1970 as a college graduation present! I have attached a couple of photos taken of the spare tire found in HLS30-08323 (08/70): (the tire and wheel have since been given a thorough cleaning) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18989-1971-240z-oem-bridgestone-17514-value/?&page=2#findComment-161729 Share on other sites
