Posted February 23, 200619 yr comment_156986 Fingers crossed.I've been in touch with a locksmith who assures me that they have original key blanks marked;Nissan Motor with the Z logo.Price quoted, = $22.oo Aus. for the first key and $7.oo Aus. for each key after the first. That's cut from a key supplied. It's dearer if they have to cut from the code as supplied.I gave them the numbers as stamped on the keys I currently use;Ignition, = MZ 12, and;Doors, Hatch, Fuel, = DAT 6RI'll check them out when I go into town next Thursday. As I said, Fingers crossed.Rick.:devious: :devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18999-original-key-blanks/ Share on other sites
February 23, 200619 yr comment_156996 Your ignition key '' MZ 12 '' is cut on the incorrect blank .This blank is meant for a Mazda ! I've seen these keys for sale on ebaythat you've mentioned , they are real ''Datsun'' blanks , just not realearly ones with the black inlaid background . Your ignition and doorsand hatch should all work with one key , so I'm assuming the ignitionwas changed at some time . You state that you have a fuel lock as well ?That's a nice option ! What year is your Z car ? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18999-original-key-blanks/#findComment-156996 Share on other sites
February 23, 200619 yr comment_156998 Series 1 240z's did have one key for the ignition & one for the doors & hatch. I am still looking for reasonably priced key blanks as well. February 23, 200619 yr comment_157006 My '73 240Z has a key for the ignition only, and a separate key for the doors & hatch. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18999-original-key-blanks/#findComment-157006 Share on other sites
February 23, 200619 yr Author comment_157043 G'Day Uncle Kurt,My Zed, (Precious is her name), is a 8/74 260Z. Separate ignition key is standard, as is the lockable fuelflap, which should be fairly simple to fit into a 240Z.Rick.:devious: :devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/18999-original-key-blanks/#findComment-157043 Share on other sites
February 23, 200619 yr comment_157051 I have heard strong statements in this and other threads that one key should fit all locks in Zeds but I have had several P510 Datsun 1600's, P610 Datsun 180B's and now four Zeds - all built 1969 to 1977 - and from memory all have had a separate key for the ignition and one other key for all other locks (doors, boot, hatch and fuel lid). Several of these cars have been purchased new but most have been used. This might be just an Australian thing. February 23, 200619 yr comment_157052 Ah, now I know why I've never been able to lock my doors! I thought the locks were buggered but it seems I'm missing a key. FYI Unkle, I have a 71Z which has a lockable fuel cap. February 24, 200619 yr comment_157071 Hey Rick - Your car should have one key to fit all locks , including the gas flap lock . If you have a round lockable gas cap assembly it will be an aftermarket part , with a seperate key. Yes , only the earliest 240's had a seperate, single sided key for the ignition ! Trust me you guys , ALL Datsuns made past January 1971 had ONE key to fit all locks , a double sided key . Datsun changed the single sided ignition assembly because you could pull the key out in the ''on'' position because of wear on the keys and wafers inside the lock plug . A rare option is a keyed lock on the gas cap door , and on the post January '71 cars they could be set to the existing ignition keys , allowing only ONE key to work the entire car ! Anybody with two different keys have had the locks replaced , and never set back to the ignition key, or vice versa . February 24, 200619 yr comment_157085 It seems Nissan was not consistent in all markets. My 71 Skyline has two keys. A double sided key for the ignition and a single sided key for the doors, trunk, gas door and glove box. The Nissan part guys here in Japan claim that no such key exists because it's not listed in the parts books, yet on Yahoo Japan, they still sell locks with keys for this car that have a single sided key.
