C110 Skyline 4-door model 1/24

I am rather proud. Not so much of the outcome, but because I actually FINISHED it. I am known to my family and friends as the model kit collector. I have a whole heap of them that I have never finished building. My 1:12 240ZG was going to bring an end to all that... but it got held up when I was up to painting the shell. I think I cleared every hobby shop in my city of its Tamiya maroon spray paint! LOL Still not enough coverage... but can't find any more maroon paint! LOL

Anyway, I decided to "just put the wheels on" my 1/24 C110 sedan the other day. I got a little carried away and finished it! I am particularly happy with how the "chrome" appears against silver. Unfortunately I decided some el cheapo spray paint would do. The finish is rather rough and matte. The Tamiya hobby spray paint is excellent but too expensive.

Anyway, picture. Anyone else into model kits?

That looks awesome Lachlan. I love the details in the decals that you have. The paint looks great too. You are too modest. Do you clear coat your cars? How do you like the metal foil? I too have a lot of models that I will someday start-finish. It was a passtime of mine all the way up until I got into college. I do miss doing them. Keep up the good model building. I love these pictures. There is something about toys that is just great. That my friend is not a toy though. Its a replica.

Ben :)

I didn't use foil here, just a silver leafing pen. Expensive pen, but good results. Not as good as foil though I imagine. Here are some more pictures in the day time. I painted this car with a clear plastic primer afterwards to see if it would improve the finish a bit... It did, kinda. I guess real clear coat would be nicer? I don't think I've ever seen it in a hobby shop though... probably just not looking. The decals are so cool :) The one on the rear window is a Watanabe Racing Service sticker.

I'm now working on a 1/24 GT-R. I've completed the S20 engine and wheels now! :D I tried for a slightly "weathered" look.

The weathered engine looks great. A little bit of black paint and thinner always adds more realism. Are you going to put ignition wires on the engine? Who makes the KPGC110 kit? Fujimi? I have heard that the Tamiya KPGC10 is an excellent kit.

Your C110 four door looks great by the way.

Ben :)

Great stuff, if only my four door looked as good :D Those details are fantastic, and i especially like the stickers. The only thing that appears a bit off is the cannon "'zorst" - surely a more discrete system would be appropriate? Great job anyhow! Out of interest, have you invested in any c10 models?

I have the same 1:12 ZG kit as you. still unopened in the box, a smaller Z 1:24 i think it is, a csp311 silvia model, and R31 GTS-R, all unbuilt.

I have a RA28 celica model that i built, when i owned a RA28 celica.

Also in die casts I have 4 kyosho (2 ZG, Z432, and a rally version), 2 yatming, and 1 sunstar.

A tonka 240zg, and a plastic widebody racing 260z that i found at a swap meet.

Was going to attach a photo of the celica model i built, but cant find it, so heres a pic of the 260z toy i found at a swap meet.

Interesting toy.... reminds me of a Z I looked at when I was buying one LOL. The 1:12 Tamiyas are to die for. I was thinking about keeping it in the box all original, but models are made to be assembled. There's no point in storing them away. You need to build one Craig :)

Tom, the stickers are great aren't they. It came with a few different stickers so you can choose what you want to put on. The exhaust that came with it was a puny twin pipe and didn't look right. So I made my own :rambo: Gives it a bit more street-cred LOL It looks a little more proportionate now that I have re-attached it a bit further inwards. I also put the rear spoiler back a bit. I do have one C10 kit 1:24, it's the Works car with blue decals. :)

Ben, I thought about spark plug leads but in all honesty it won't be worth it. The bonnet on this model does not open. You can't see the engine except through the little grille! So I'll pass. The KPGC110 model I am now building is a Fujimi kit. It's nice, but the shell has the flares, rear beaver panel and front grille on it. So it will be tricky to paint (the Tamiya metallic grey that comes in a spray can is a much closer match than the little bottle of metallic grey).

  • 2 weeks later...

Finished the KPGC110 now. I really stuffed it up... long story, but basically I tried using non-hobby paint on it, and it didn't work. :stupid: Then the wheels sat far too much inwards, so I modified it to look nicer. Looks cool now with lots of camber, but the rear wheels don't turn very nicely! That's ok, it looks decent from a distance. Anyway, I am still unemployed and am feeling the heat, so I'm selling most of my model kits on eBay. Have a look if you're interested :hurt:
