Last week, here in Miami, reported on the news was an unhappy customer at local Ford dealership who was very unhappy with the deal on his car. He took his two day old SUV, drove it through the showroom window (smashing several cars inside), got out, dumped a can of gasoline on it and set it on fire.

The event was captured on security camera - this happened right in the middle of the day I believe.

Here's the sad part: as I'm sitting watching the video on the news, it is quite apparent that the showroom car that took the brunt of the impact as he plowed through the window was... you guessed it, a brand new Ford GT. I almost cried. Later that night, in a follow up news piece, they panned the destroyed showroom and sure enough, the charred remains of a GT were crumbled in the corner.

Tragically, the man arrested for this strange event commited suicide a couple of days later.

It wasn't just a normal GT, it was a limited package that Ford only made 300 of. So instead of a normal $140,000 GT, it was something more. (I think it's just the color and interior combination, but the dealer did confirm it wasn't just a production line GT).

And I personally love the Ford GT. If it's good enough for Jeremy Clarkson to order one and wait 2 years, then dammit, it's good enough for me. :smoke:

I've been following this story since the day it occurred. The drunk fool who wrecked it, kept telling the cops for several days that he was the passenger and the guy driving it had split from the scene before authorities arrived. After some investigation it was determined that HE was actually the driver (no passenger was involved) and that the estimated speed at which control was lost was somewhere near 160mph. (all this according to KTTV in LA,CA)

Now THAT is a TOOL!

First off, I thought,

C'mon now Chris, why post it in Funnybone, that's not funny. Then again, on second thought, there is such a thing as Tragic comedy.

On the news the other night, a bloke bought the very last Holden Monaro to be produced. (I think in the USA they were marketed as a Pontiac GT). Only paid $178,000.oo for it. Holden donated the money to Charity. The car will NEVER BE DRIVEN !!!!!!!!!!!

It will go into his private collection.

Rick.

:devious: :devious:

Here is something that will make us happy. In a review on the Ferrari Enzo, the car that they were barrowing was owned by a Ferrari enthusiast. He sold his whole collection of 20 classic Ferraris so he could by the Enzo. Him and his son race it all the time. By the time of the review they had to replace the brake pads and rotors. I think the rotors were about $6000 a piece. Oil change $675. Who knows how many tires they went through. At least someone knows how to appreciate what they have.

sorry, but i don't uderstand your sadness.

The sadness comes from the fact that I cant afford a GT and its a sweet car. Then someone comes along who can afford it (Ferrari driver also) and totals the ride. The lack of appreciation shown these vehicles makes it sad.

And Rick is absolutely right on the money. Tragic comedy indeed.

Foolish peaple driving way to fast. Ill take a rusty Z and a nice sunny drive in the country over a Ford GT anyday.

Huh, what??? I love our Z's but Bill think of what you just typed. Rusty Z, sunny drive over a Ford GT, I think not. Now maybe if the Z wasn't so rusty:cheeky:

I though that was a bit extreme as well but I'm sure it was said with tongue-in-cheek. You could by a whole slew of Z's and several square miles of countryside for your "sunny drive" with the proceeds from the sale of that Ford GT, and certainly from an Enzo.

Honestly i don't see it as being very sad, the only thing I find as sad is the fact that this guy was probably trying to show off and wrecked his car. He is obviously attention deprived and payed $150,000 to get some attention. Anyways, the GT isn't that great of a car. Give me one and I would drive it once, to get rid of it. Honestly, if the car was a 1973 2.7 Carrera RS, Lamorghini Muira, or a Plymoth Barracuda Hemi 440 that would realy make me sad. But a Ford GT, he could just buy another one, that is what insurance is for. I like what Eric Buell says about motorcycles, it is something like, "Anyone can make a fast motorcycle but not everyone can make a motorcycle that is fun to ride." That is my point, their are hundreds of cars that would be alot more fun to drive and most of the are a lot cheaper. You would need to force me to spend $150,000 on a car and I would buy this.
