Need to wash for wax?

Hey guys,

I have compounded and polished the car today... wondering if I need to wait til tomorrow to wash and wax, or if I should be able to just wax right away....

its not show quality paint (still 32 yr old original paint)

You are only 20 yrs old, you can probably wash and wax right away. I'm over 50 and need a nap after I compound and polish the Z, so it will probably have to wait until tomorrow, if not next week. Have at it man. The paint don't care.

Being 50 I am waxing a body panel ie fender, door etc a day (ok maybe a panel every 2 or 3 days) on the Black Pearl. I have to be careful I don't burn myself out. Mike

Us old timers meaning myself like the old fashioned way the old had wash wax and buff !!!! But I do feel better that I am not the only one it takes maybe two days to complete the job !!!!

Me being one that doesn't like to get my car wet. I will use a damp rag and gently wipe down a section. Then I will buff dry. Then wax and buff again.

First I like to look at pitures then I wait for the coast to be clear. I apply a bit of. O wait thats something else I'm thinking of. I would just wash it when you get the chance. If you get some quality soap, one thats not going to leave spots, wash it up dry it off and wax the hell out of her..

As long as you did a good job getting the compound off before you polished.....and you did a good job removing the polish......there is no need to wash it before waxing. Wash away and be happy. It's safe.

If you use a quality random orbital unit with speed control, with the right pads and product, the machine method is just as safe and produces better results than doing it by hand. Plus, it leaves more time for doing the rest of the car or whatever else you want.

I used to be a firm believer in a good hand job, but now I'd rather be getting one than giving one. So while you're bent over crying about your aching back, feet, hands and arms, I'll be working on my second six pack and shagging the old lady.
