Posted February 25, 200619 yr comment_157209 I was wondering if theres a way to take the tires off my rims myself. I have the slotted mags, and am going to clean them up and get my tires. But I don't have much extra money to spend to pay someone to take the tires off... unless I have to. If anyone knows any ways please let me know, thanks. February 25, 200619 yr comment_157210 There is no easy way to do this on tubeless wheels, as they have a safety hump that holds the tire bead in place. It takes a lot of pressure to stretch the tire over that hump. I'm afraid you'll have to pay to have them removed. Sorry. February 25, 200619 yr comment_157219 Believe it or not, I have done this. You need a big screwdriver and a hammer to break the bead loose from the rim. Then you need two big screwdrivers and a lot of soap to pry the tire off the rim. It shoud take about 30 - 40 minutes per rim. I say you'd be better off paying the tire guy to get them off. It shouldn't be more than $5.00 each. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19020-take-tires-off-rims/#findComment-157219 Share on other sites

February 26, 200619 yr comment_157286 I bought a manual changer from HF when they were on sale for $39, works great. I can change a tire in about 10 minutes. I got it for much the same reason you are asking. I wanted to clean the mags one at a time then put them back on the car to keep it rolling, then later powdercoat them. Figured I'd have $80 in having someone taking off and putting on old tires. Since then I bought a balancer and have changed the tires on my Silverado, ordered the tires on the internet w/shipping and saved $5 a tire and didn't have to pay mount or balance, figure I saved more there.
