Does anyone know if they're the same as an L24 pump?Do you enjoy changing water pumps? Why take a chance on a used one. You could be doing it agains in a few weeks. Water pumps are available NEW for about $30.Do your self a favor and just buy a new one.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19023-water-pump-question/#findComment-157455 Share on other sites
February 27, 200619 yr comment_157469 I'll second that motion, if the used pump has been dry for awhile the seals probably won't last long. For sure a job you only want to do once go with new. February 27, 200619 yr comment_157476 i'll third the motion. if you have to replace it anyway and with the part relatively cheap, buy a new/remanufactured pump and sleep easy.besides the dry seal possibility, you really don't know the condition. it would be a hard lesson to have the shaft snap and launch the fan into your radiator. your free fan might cost you a new $30 pump and a new $200 radiator. February 28, 200619 yr Author comment_157515 Whilst waiting for an answer I bought a new one anywayROFL I did noticed that the impeller was different to the old one - 8 blades instead of 6. In addition, they were slightly more aggressively profiled. Now all I've got to do is stop the fan belt from squealing.. argh! February 28, 200619 yr comment_157557 My water pump leaks, but only every once in a while. How hard is it to replace?I don't like the sound of having my fan crash into my brand new radiator.I have a metal fan. I guess this is a good time to replace that too. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19023-water-pump-question/#findComment-157557 Share on other sites

Get a new/rebuilt pump. The 4 cyl one wouldn't work anyway. Most of them had a built in fan clutch but even the ones that don't would not allow you to used the Z fan clutch. Different bolt pattern where the clutch mounts. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19023-water-pump-question/#findComment-157572 Share on other sites

February 28, 200619 yr Author comment_157609 The tricky bit is locking off the fan to stop it from turning whilst you're removing the nuts that hold it to the pump.Once you've changed a water pump on a mini, all else looks VERY easy! March 1, 200619 yr comment_157634 I just put pressure on the fanbelt while loosening the nuts with the smallest 6 point 10mm wrench I can find in the toolbox. Never changed on an a mini. Is it harder than a Nissan Sentra? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19023-water-pump-question/#findComment-157634 Share on other sites
March 1, 200619 yr comment_157693 "Break bolt, difficulty level jumped up to 7"That's funny.Isn't that the way it goes.I think that will be the next project. I guess I might as well try to find a plastic fan while I'm at it.
