As the Old Saying Goes-If it Sells Too Quick

Recommended Posts

I saw this listed this morning and knew that it was priced too low. It started out at $5k and had a Buy-it-Now price of $6,500.00. It sold in just 24 hours for the Buy-it-Now...no surprise when you give it away.. here's the link:

As long as it wasn't another scam. Low seller history, long term, but low involvement seller-no current feedback, and a detailed ad for a car with a low buy it now and a $500 deposit-I couldn't find enough on the seller that could be confirmed to hit the "BIN" button-I hope nobody gets bit...

All of the serial numbers were matching and the engine block matched the engine number on the data plate. Judging from the pictures, there must have been $800.00 in brand new parts that came with the car. I would say that the buyer did very well on this Series I car and the seller screwed up. He did the right thing by starting the bidding at $5,000.00, but he should have let the auction run its course for the full 7 days and not have the low Buy It Now.

When I have sold a car , truck or boat or home . I set the price that I am comfortable with and what I think the item is worth . When sold , I don't look back . Secound guessing will drive you nuts. I have heard this so many times it sold too quick. It had to be priced to cheep ! And I am not talking of the items I have sold but in general . Remember it only takes one buyer. Now if you list a item and have byers fighting over it , YES YOU LISTED IT TOO LOW . Ok , just remember you were satisfied with the price when you listed . Move on .

Amen, on that one beandip! The wife and I sold her Integra awhile back, and I still think we let it go too cheap. This really looks like I real cherry, and she's orange too  I would've loved the oppurtunity to have seen how much she really would've gone for... I'm sure the seller needed the money, and the buyer got a hell of a deal.

You guys are missing my point. The guy started the bidding at $5k, which was a good place to start, but he set the Buy-it-now too low. Why not eliminate the Buy-it-now and let it go the full 7 days and see what happens? Obviously, the Buy-it-now was too low since it was snagged in just 1 day, and we all know that it was worth more than that. I just think that the guy didn't do his due diligence researching the market, that's all.

Out of Left Field:

Does anyone know if the charges for e-Bay change between BIN and Auction?

The speed of a transaction can play a LOT with the price.

As WE know, there is no doubt there would have been an .... AUCTION.... and that's what we were hoping to see. BUT, have you guys seen ads that says "The First $400 takes it!" or ... <insert your favorite selling phrase here> and you WOULD give it to the first guy that gave you that amount just so you could be THROUGH with that item?

Imagine being the seller: He's not interested in checking to see if the struts need this, or whether the flim flam detail is coherent with the strenous paperwork or whether........he wants so many bills of such and such a denomination and you don't need a bag. He's told you everything he knows about it truthfully, and he hopes it's enough for you to buy it or leave him alone. The BIN was set at a level for someone to say....YES! ... and get it out of my driveway, not in a week, not check under the rockers, pull up the carpet .... I want it gone.. NOW!

Cheap? Yes, as far as we're concerned, but as Beandip put it, he may have just gotten out as fast as he wanted, and is happy about it.

Or....as one enterprising young man found out after putting the Lotus in his girlfriend's name to avoid taxes, when she caught him messing around she sold it for $20, or was that an urban legend.....
