Great 1970 Z car in Grassroots Motorsports Magazine

For those of you who don't subscribe to Grassroots Motorsports magazine, the new issue (August 2002) just arrived in the mail. There is a great article and pics of a 1970 240Z on page 53. The car is beautiful, and the owner has put a 280ZX Turbo engine in it with many other well thought out modifications. Great story, great pics, and a lot of useful info for those of you who may be wondering about the how to do the swap.

BTW, the magazine is one I heartily recommend for anyone who is as car crazy as I am. There is something in there for any type of auto enthusiast, from street cars to race cars, they cover it all. The classified ads in the back of the magazine have all sorts of nice cars for sale, and the advertisers in the magazine have anything you could possibly need for a project car, whether a street car or all-out race car. It can be purchased at most any good book store or you can subscribe for 19.95 per year for 8 issues.

The only problem I have with GRM is that every time I read an issue it makes me want to sell off everything I own and get a full blown racer... I've been tempted many times in the classified section of GRM. Definitely one of the best motorsports mags around.

Dave, you aren't the only one. I check their on-line classifieds at least once a week or so, just so I don't miss anything.

The best thing about the mag is that they have something for everyone. Parts, build-ups, long term project cars, it covers every budget and fantasy.;)

I have to agree with you guys on that one.

By the time the next issue is out my last

issue is pretty much worn out from me

flipping through the pages for ideas.

I use to buy them at the newstand until

I saw the " Free" trial issue. I went online

and ordered the freebie and was really hooked.

The letter from the Editor of the Aug. issue pretty well sums up why the magazine is so fantastic. Great philosophy. I really liked the little dig at the other car mags...something like, '..high on snobbery, low on technical know-how...'!

Before anyone runs out and buy the magazine for info about that ZX Turbo swap...ya might wanna read it again! I think there's a couple of other 'issues' involved on this car! Let's just say I don't think 'Gumby' is a fan of FI!

Well, since you quoted me I'll have to say one thing. The owner not only did a lot of mods under the hood that a lot of members might be curious about, he addressed the complete package. He didn't just try to build a killer motor, he also upgraded the suspension and the brakes.

His engine choice wouldn't be my "cup of tea" personally, but I do respect him for building a "sleeper" that can handle and stop as well as go. While it may not be a 100% restored trailer queen type of car, it is not chopped up, not overly modified in its outward appearance, it is a decent car that will not attract a lot of attention. It's not "arrest me red" and it's not a car a thief would follow around all day trying to steal it either. So in reality it is the ultimate kind of "sleeper", it won't attract a lot of attention until the person behind the wheel decides he wants it.;)

Just giving you a hard time! Not disputing you.... I have a tendency to read magazines in two sittings. When it comes in the mail I gleefully race through it absorbing as much info as I can. Then a few hours or a few days later (depending if it's GRM or Martha Stewart Living) I sit down with it and read it c-to-c. On this issue, I went through and said, "Oh, yeah, nice turbo." Then when I sat down to read it, that's when I noticed the whole 4-bbl/H2o injection....

Nice car. Not my 'cup of tea' engine-wise, but nice package all around.
