Anyone in Sacramento, CA have a Z in good condition?

The insurance agency gave me a call today, and said that they wanted to inspect my vehicle to see if it is a total loss. Does anyone else in Sacramento have a Z in good condition (minimal rust, straight body, ok interior) and wouldn't mind letting an insurance adjuster get a quote from you?

Your car is a total loss to them if it costs them more to fix than what they think the car was worth. Unless you have an appraisal or some other indication of the value they're going to claim that it's just a 34 year old Datsun.

If you haven't already I'd search here for other advice about dealing with the insurance company. I know that in the past Escanlon has had some extremely sound advice in this area. You probably want to be as informed as possible before talking to them.

I hope you had "agreed value" insurance on your car ... if not, it's more than likely they will "total" your car even if it is quite repairable (which it looked to be from the photos in your other post).

I asked my old insurance company if they would do agreed value insurance and they said no. They basicly said if the car was in an accident, because of it's age (and regarless of it's shape or "personal value"), that it would be a write off. I kindly said thank you and hung up then started to look for a different insurance company.

Like it was said before, do some searches on insurance and you can read what others have said about thier insurance experinces, both the bad and good.

BTW, my old insurance company wanted 1,200+ a year for liablity only insurance on my Z and I have a perfect driving record of 10 years.

hmmm...The insurance company that is going to be paying out the cost of damage is Farmer's Insurance, and I have Geico myself. Farmer's is handling all of the repair and what not. I do know that when I had AAA and was in an accident, they quoted me $1800 to fix the problem, and just gave me the cash, and did not salvage the Z. Any suggestions?

Good luck, State Farm insisted on totaling my car unless I could find an almost exact duplicate selling for higher than what they thought or I pay 300 bucks to have it appraised. And my car was in it's prime when it got rear ended! Farmer's Insurance (the other guy's insurance), ended up agreeing to cough up the cash once I sent them copies of thousands in reciepts from restoring the car. If you're not concerned about having a salvage title you could buy the car back from the insurance company at a low cost.

If it's cheaper to fix than to total it, they should pay to fix it. If they decided it's too expensive and total your car, you can buy back the salvage usually for 10% of the amount they pay you for the car. But IIRC then the car has a salvage title, even if it really wasn't "totalled" in the first place. Maybe a big deal to you, maybe not. Were you planning to drive it into the ground or did you want to sell it in a year? That's where it becomes a big deal.

I know about buying it back, but I don't want to do that because it lowers the value of the car if I ever were to sell it, and with a salvage title, you can only be insured for 1/2 of the total value of the car. I'm looking around at other Z's, and there's one that sold here for $1000 (73 240Z), and it had horrible paint, moderate rust, no interior, but an ok engine. There's another Z (78 280Z) that is selling for $1200, but it has horrible paint and poor interior, but not too bad of rust. Hopefully Farmer's is the same as AAA, and they use a reputable estimate company.

I'm just going to keep my foot down about it, and I'll do everything I can just to get it fixed w/o a salvage title.

For what it's worth, I just did a quick search on Ebay for all the 240's that have sold in the last month and there are 7 on there that have sold between 4,000 and 8,600. If the damage isn't going to be past this you should have no problem with the insurance company.

I am glad to hear the other company has taken fault in the wreak, I was thinking you and the other driver would have been both called at fault, but that is good news.

Also, this is more for the Texas region. My best friend works at a body shop and was telling me the other day that the company that they have the most problem with is Progressive. They never want to pay out thier shop estimate and make the whole process a pain. Just a little FYI.

man, you guys are awesome. I posted the same info I gave you all about my accident on Zcar.com, and it became a huge flame fest, where everyone just wanted to tell me how stupid I was for driving the Z and making a left hand turn. What happened was that I found a witness (the guy who waved me on), and had him issue a statement to both insurance companies, and the witness and my statements coencided (sp?) with each other, and the other driver had no idea what happened, so her insurance company found her at fault.

Now I'm just waiting to get a call for them to come out and appraise my Z (I want them to do it on my terms, so at my house) and to hurry up and get me a rental car so that I'm not reliant on my father and my girlfriend's mother to drive me to and from work.
