Late Euro 240Z indicators?

Hello,

I'm importing a EUDM '73 240Z fom Switzerland. I've spotted on the photos that the indicators are not mounted below the front bumper like on this G-nosed car...

...but are set in a separate, let's say, box, sticking just in front of the grille, just like here:

My question is: did European cars have those as standard from the beggining of production? As far as I know, the 260Z had those indicators as standard from the beggining of production. I didn't spot them on any American or Japanese 240Z, were they mounted only for the European market then?

I am not sure if the indicators that you are referring to on the yellow UK model 240z were standard from the beginning of production, but I do know that they were standard from 1972 and on. However, I am not positive if they were done by the factory or by the importer. I believe that the indicators mounted on the bumper were also mounted on top of the bumper, and not below it as this would defeat their purpose. They were fitted on British cars to meet legal requirements.

Thus, I don't think they were offered on any other market. I could be wrong on this, but these are just a few of my findings with looking at pictures in magazines and from the book "Datsun Z, Fairlady to 280Z" written by Brian Long.

We had them on our English cars,lots of us over here put wot we call here US spec indicaters,which are fitted on your cars

Ben's right, they were moved there for British legislation as far as I know.

Alan talked about this a while ago, I think you will find more information if you use the search function!

I too thought the indicators were originally positioned above the bumper, like this car (attachment). Perhaps it's just a common modification to flip the bracket.

Yes I believe they did. Europe didn't have the body mounted indicators. Might have been due to regulations about height of lights, or that they didnt have amber lenses.

Australian 240Z had the indicators set into the fender below the ends of the bumper, untill sometime in 1973, when bumper indicators were added to augment the existing indicators. eithe under the bumper or on top.

When the 260Z cam along, they had the side fender indicators, so the bumper mounted ones were not fitted.
