First I want to clear the air that these are not my decisions.

Second these choices were made by an AMERICAN PUBLICATION so they are slanted because of the readers of this magazine.

Okay now that the disclaimer has been made here were the choices, in a non-specific order, and significance.

1965 Honda RA272 F1 Car, the first Japanese formula 1 winner

1968 Toyota 2000 GT Carol Shelby race team, focus from Fords to Toyotas in the 60's

1970 Datsun 240 BRE 240Z, with a honorable mention of the Datsun roadsters that came before the Z

1971 Datsun BRE 510, specifically the dominance in this class in 71 and 72.

1974 Mazda RX-3 The land speed record racer at Bonneville G production car. turning 160.393mph

1980 Mazda RX-7 IMSA GTU dominance, from 80 to 87 with the distinction of the most wins by a single car model.

1988 Nissan GTP ZX-t Nissan beats Porsche at their own game.

1991 Mazda 787B Japans first and only Le Mans overall win

1992 Mazda Miata, rebirth of the roadster and a staple in SCCA Club Racing.

1997 Acura Integra Type R Realtime Racing SCCA Pro Racing's Speed World Challenge. Acura dominated from 97 to 02

Okay guys there it is....

Nice thread Ron. I like this kind of thing.

Yes, I can see what you mean.

Maybe it would be fun to debate some alternatives to those chosen, and the reasons why........?

For example: "1988 Nissan GTP ZX-t Nissan beats Porsche at their own game." - but there was a Nissan that beat a Works Porsche driven by Works drivers, and it was 20 years earlier than the GTP ZX-T.

Could be an interesting and informative debate.

maybe my memory is faulty but IIRC the 1988 Nissan GTP-ZXt beat Porche for the IMSA GTP season-long champoinship.

Did that also happen with the earlier referenced Nissan or was it a one race wonder?

No, I don't want to debate it, just looking for clarification of the actual facts since none have as yet been provided. Inquiring minds want to know.

If you don't want to debate it, maybe you should be doing your own research?

And if you are worried about "one hit wonders" then maybe you would not want to see the Honda RA272, Mazda RX3 Bonneville car and Mazda 767B Le Mans win on the list either?

And therefore also the 510 Bluebird winning the East African Safari Rally in 1970, and the 240Z winning it in 1971 and 1973?

Don't worry - these are just rhetorical questions, seeing as you don't want to debate. :-)

HI Ron (everyone)

I don't know why - but I was thinking that Classic Motorsport Magazine was a British Publication, which had either merged with or bought-out Grass Roots Motorsports here in the US. Does the publication information in the front of the magazine show it being an American Publication now?

FWIW,

Carl B.

I think you might be getting it confused with another publication? Their website shows that it is published in your back yard - Florida, USA:

Carl it is a US publication out of Florida, and it does have close ties to Grassroots Motorsports. The current cover displays the 46 BRE 510.

Panchovista, keep in mind that I have a BSR roadster replica and am presently restoring a REAL B sedan 510. :)

Gogriz91, the new poster was a bit of a shock. I spoke to Hector (the artist and Datsun enthusiast) and it is a strict marketing thing...Mazda stepped up to the plate. Of course they would not want to see a Nissan in a prominate location on the poster....

You misunderstand my post.

Debating a VERY SUBJECTIVE list is pointless IMO. NO ONE will be right or wrong.

However, presenting facts is interesting. I didn't say anything about dismissing any car from the list, my point was that a champoinship winning season is far different from winning a single race and I was wondering if we are talking about the same level of dominance over the Porsches. Either way the info is interesting to me, I just want to be sure I'm understanding the FACTS...........If they ever get presented. THAT IS ALL.

If you don't wish to present the facts, that is fine. Someone else will, or not.
