And whilst we are on the subject of WEC / Group C:

I would have thought that Hasemi / Hoshino / Suzuki's victory in the 1992 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in the Nissan R91CP was worthy of a place in that 'Top 10' list above some of the other listings?

My apologies, Alan. After I wrote the first bit, I went back to look at some of the great pictures you and Eric have posted and realized that nothing would have precluded an entry in the Group C class for a car of that design during those racing years. Those were the transition years and it does get confusing when you consider the introduction of Group C rules. IMSA introduced the GTP rules about the same time. I know how confusing it is between Porsche 956s and 962s.

Here is a photo of the 1992 Daytona 24 winner. R91CP (Lola) V8 turbo - entered by Nissan Motorsports International I wish I knew the chassis number.

yea... maybe the confusion was my fault:

i posted pics of Gr5 IronMask,

Alan approved but wondered out loud about a GrC Skyline,

me not knowing that IronMask had made an appearance in GrC simply typed in "GrC Skyline" into Google and out popped the pic of the Tomica diecast of the March car of '84-5,

It wasn't until later that Alan clarified that the lower/wider R30 WAS the initial GrC proposal from Nissan & subsequently replaced by the March car.

All cleared up now...

Nissan won the IMSA GTP championship in '89, '90, and '91. I was rummaging around and found the 1988 pin. Sorry for the lousy scan, but I don't want to take the pin out of the original bag - complete with the 100% rust-free staple.

I believe they did indeed win a few races, but came fourth overall in the 1968 championship.

One of the cars that Toyota sent to Shelby was their record-breaking car. I notice the "Top 10" list doesn't include any of the high speed and endurance record-breaking activities of Toyota, Nissan and Prince - even though they were World records for their class.

It probably needs to be a 'Top 50' to do the subject justice I'd have thought.

The R380II definitely needs to be in that list IMO, as well as some early Mazdas but while the magazine stays an American publication I guess it's understandable the cars they pick. If it were in Australia no doubt they would have the Malborough R32 in there up near the top. A top 50 would be nice... I would like to see what a Japanese publication would choose. Has Nostalgic Hero or something similar ever done a "list" like this?

Nostalgic Hero has never done it for race cars to my knowledge, but they have had popularity polls for standard car models.

I think Montoya_fan01 was right; this kind of thing is far too subjective for everybody to come to any kind of democratic decision - but it would be nice if the activities of Japanese cars in their homeland were to be taken into account ( and that goes for the British magazines too......... ).

Winfield is the Sponsor you are thinking of. I couldn't believe how hard it was to round up some pics for you. Finally found them in a couple of 1992 magazines. Plenty around of the BIANTE model cars, but thanks to govt. regs you won't see any mention of Winfield, them being makers of cancer sticks 'n all:rolleyes:

I've chucked one in of the Marlboro A9X for good measure!
