I have a aftermarket fuel pump. Do I need the stock electric pump?

Alright I have triple webers with no mechanical and an aftermarket electric fuel pump. This is in a 260Z. Do I, in fact, need the stock electric pump? I seem to be getting enough fuel pressure. I do have a fuel pressure regulator.

I would say that you don't need the factoy pump and it was just used to suppliment the mechanical pump. An aftermarket pump will replace both as it is designed to be the solitary pump. But I'm an EFI guy, maybe the carb guys will step in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Bobby Lee,

I would recommend that you pull the mechanical fuel pump.

However, with trip-carbs, "flow rate" is just as important as "pressure rate." You should ensure that your fuel pump has the capacity to push out at least 60 GPH at a minimum of 3 PSI.

I use a Holley red top, that puts out 71 GPH at 4 PSI and I try to keep my pressure just below 4 PSI.

I have said it a dozen times that the RX-7 pump will supply the SUs and or Tripples . I have tried it and it will . I used a pump froma '80 RX-7 . No pressure regulator is needed. Plus it is quiet. $15.00 at a u pull it.

Hello all,

I do have the mechanical pump off the car. I have a Purolator pump. It is noisy! I may have to look into that Mazda pump. I'm running aubout 3.5 lbs at the carbs. I also didn't mention it, but I didn't dead head it at the rear carb. I've continued it on to the return line. It seems there is some controversey over ending it or having it go to the return line. In the pic you can see the pressure regulator on the far left. The gauge is just before front Weber. And thanks to all of you who took the time out to answer this post! :knockedou

I run the RX-7 pump too on both my triple Dellorto l24 and 6500w Onan generator. Dead quiet and very capable of supplying the fuel you'll need. As for the SU's, I used a stock (noisy) pump until converting to the RX-7 pump. I used three (overkill) dial-type regulators. One in the main line and one for each carb. They were set to 2.5 psi and the SU's ran fine.
