Posted March 20, 200619 yr comment_160116 Alright I have triple webers with no mechanical and an aftermarket electric fuel pump. This is in a 260Z. Do I, in fact, need the stock electric pump? I seem to be getting enough fuel pressure. I do have a fuel pressure regulator. Thanks to all who answer..........Bobby_Lee Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19291-i-have-a-aftermarket-fuel-pump-do-i-need-the-stock-electric-pump/ Share on other sites
March 20, 200619 yr comment_160117 I would say that you don't need the factoy pump and it was just used to suppliment the mechanical pump. An aftermarket pump will replace both as it is designed to be the solitary pump. But I'm an EFI guy, maybe the carb guys will step in and correct me if I'm wrong. March 20, 200619 yr Author comment_160118 Thanks Stephen,That was the conclusion I came to on my own. Common sense would dictate that to be the case. But, there are far brighter Z owners than myself :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19291-i-have-a-aftermarket-fuel-pump-do-i-need-the-stock-electric-pump/#findComment-160118 Share on other sites

March 21, 200619 yr comment_160224 Bobby Lee,I would recommend that you pull the mechanical fuel pump. However, with trip-carbs, "flow rate" is just as important as "pressure rate." You should ensure that your fuel pump has the capacity to push out at least 60 GPH at a minimum of 3 PSI. I use a Holley red top, that puts out 71 GPH at 4 PSI and I try to keep my pressure just below 4 PSI. Hope this helps.....George Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19291-i-have-a-aftermarket-fuel-pump-do-i-need-the-stock-electric-pump/#findComment-160224 Share on other sites
March 21, 200619 yr comment_160228 I have said it a dozen times that the RX-7 pump will supply the SUs and or Tripples . I have tried it and it will . I used a pump froma '80 RX-7 . No pressure regulator is needed. Plus it is quiet. $15.00 at a u pull it. March 21, 200619 yr Author comment_160257 Hello all, I do have the mechanical pump off the car. I have a Purolator pump. It is noisy! I may have to look into that Mazda pump. I'm running aubout 3.5 lbs at the carbs. I also didn't mention it, but I didn't dead head it at the rear carb. I've continued it on to the return line. It seems there is some controversey over ending it or having it go to the return line. In the pic you can see the pressure regulator on the far left. The gauge is just before front Weber. And thanks to all of you who took the time out to answer this post! :knockedou Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19291-i-have-a-aftermarket-fuel-pump-do-i-need-the-stock-electric-pump/#findComment-160257 Share on other sites
March 22, 200619 yr comment_160360 is there a way to run a new fuel pump to the stock SU's (with a regulator)? thinking about putting in a fuel cell...thanks! March 22, 200619 yr comment_160369 I run the RX-7 pump too on both my triple Dellorto l24 and 6500w Onan generator. Dead quiet and very capable of supplying the fuel you'll need. As for the SU's, I used a stock (noisy) pump until converting to the RX-7 pump. I used three (overkill) dial-type regulators. One in the main line and one for each carb. They were set to 2.5 psi and the SU's ran fine. March 22, 200619 yr comment_160379 for the rx7 pump, does it have to be the 3rd gen or the 2nd gen "turbo II"? will an aftermarket pump work as well? March 22, 200619 yr comment_160386 It has to be from a CARBURATED RX7. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19291-i-have-a-aftermarket-fuel-pump-do-i-need-the-stock-electric-pump/#findComment-160386 Share on other sites
