Posted March 20, 200618 yr comment_160168 Hi, I'm restoring my 81 280zx. I'm the original owner and have been restoring this car for about a year now. I'm having problems with the distributer. Does any one know of any good mechanics in the san francisco bay area (east bay if possible) Thank's Tina:stupid:  Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19295-im-going-to-need-lots-of-help/ Share on other sites
March 21, 200618 yr comment_160182 These distributor have a track record of the vacuum advance assembly going to hell......actually coming apart. Parts can be had from Nissan. I live in SoCal, so I can't recommend a good Datsun/Nissan mechanic. Hang in there, someone will chime in! FYI....and you probably have already figured it out but, Classic Zcar Club's focus is on the early Zs....240, 260, 280. March 21, 200618 yr comment_160234 There is a Z specialist in Fremont, Ca, Dando's Automotive, that has done wonders for my 260z. The number to their shop is (510)659-7900. Ask for Benji and tell him what's going on with your car. They are somewhat pricey, but they know what they are doing and if they ever have to replace parts, they always found the correct OEM parts. Take care and good luck with your 280ZX,Ben Yount Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19295-im-going-to-need-lots-of-help/#findComment-160234 Share on other sites
March 22, 200618 yr comment_160351 Well I would say before you spend entierly to much at MSA for theyre parts you should check out www.courtesyparts.com first. Much cheaper, all NISSAN parts, unlike most of what you would get from MSA though. Also if you wanted it a bit cheaper, you can still find them at most your local parts stores. March 22, 200618 yr comment_160363 Also try http://www.nismoparts.com. Their prices are about the lowest on OEM parts but you must know the part number or call customer service there to have them help you find it. March 22, 200618 yr comment_160394 Your local parts store will have a rebuilt unit . I live in the Portland area and here they are about $135.00 . I rebuilt my own ignition and the parts alone came to 80.00 . The parts store will want your old unit for a core other wise the cost will be about $40.00 additional.
