Good bodywork guys in California Bay Area?

My brother works in a body shop in San Rafael, but if you are talking a complete paint job, you probably arn't interested because they arn't cheap and your schedule has to be pretty open. They do great work but don't really like to take on a full paint job. My guess is at least $6,000 and that would be if you do all of the assembly/disassembly and if there is minimal body work required. But when I say they do good work, I am talking almost show quality. If it was any better you would be afraid to drive the car. If you are interested in contacting them let me know but you would have to convince them to paint your car.

If you are interested in a full paint job and body work for not a lot of money I highly recommend:

Maaco Auto Painting & Bodyworks: Palo Alto

(650) 493-6110

816 San Antonio Rd

Palo Alto, CA 94303

This is not the choice if you want a show winner, but is great for a daily driver. The quality of their work is excellent for the price.

Does anyone have a recommendation to a good bodywork shop in Northern California's Bay Area? I figure while the motor is out and being rebuilt I might as well have the rest of the car done right too. Thanks! :)

Go to a few local Car Shows or Meets.. and ask the Street Rodders.. they'll know where to send you. Take a pencil and paper.. write down the responses and pump them for details.

The body shops that do Street Rods and Custom Cars will be the one's that "LIKE" doing complete paint jobs.. Body Shops that live on Collision Work won't want to touch it a full paint job - too much time and too little money in it for them.

good luck,

Carl B.

Ares240z:

If you are interested in following Carl's advice, tomorrow (March 25th) and Sunday there is a Good Guys Street Rod event at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

My Dad and Uncle will be there with some of their toys.

Hmm... I was looking for someone to do a pretty full work up on the car. Fix, repair, possibly replace any sheetmetal needed for rust repair etc.

You might talk to Chau's Auto Sport in Oakland. These guys can do anything. Their work is excellent. IME, reasonably priced for the level of care they put into it. If you're not nearby, call first and see if you can get Eric to the phone.
