New guy from Canada

Recommended Posts

Hi every one.I've never joined anything like this before, but I'm pretty excited about what I might learn.I own a 1972 240Z which I've had for a couple of years now. I have done a fair bit of work to the car and I can't wait to get it back on the road! I have driven it before and just love it.This is my third 240Z that I have owned over the years and I can't seem to want to get away from them. This car I have now was parked for a number of years when I found it,so there is very little rust.It seems pretty tight. The car has a rip in the roof liner and I would like to hear your opinion about getting a sun-roof put in? I think I would probably get a lot better view when I drive through the beautiful mountains in B.C.I sure can't wait to do some touring.I drove the first 240Z that I owned to California and back in the early eighties .Boy was that a blast.I took a lot of back roads with nasty curves and loved life to the fullest. Thanks for listening.I'll be back soon,Jim.

I think you will find all types of info, news, pointers, opinions, some cheesey jokes, the exchange of sassy banter and more, feel sure you will be glad you signed up. NO sunroof, I have a 78 Black Pearl and it came with a sunroof, only car I ever owned with one, I am 50 and have owned a few along the path. Just a place for water to leak in, road noise and its so hard to drive looking up. I would never (to each his own) cut a hole in the roof of an otherwise great car. Bet if you ask nice someone here would probably donate a decent headliner out of a parts car to keep your roof intact. Mike

The question is what won't you learn here!! This site has some of the most helpful and knowledgable people of any Z car site out there! Welcome :)

Sunroof....NO! Don't cut a hole in your Z's roof...as stated it is just one more place for water to leak in, and it will de-value your classic car. Just get a new headliner.

My thinking on this is that if you think it will add enjoyment to your ride, go for it, it's yours after all. But do so knowing that sun/moonroofs are prone to leaks, Z cars rust easily, it potentially weakens the structural integrity of the upper body, potentially decreases the resale value of the car, and most of the guys on here will have a hissy fit if you do. You're in a Classic Z Zone where preservation/restoration is the common desire. Taking a saw to the roof just flys in the face of what the majority of these guys are commited to. I think there are some who would actually have nightmares if you told them you did so. ;)

P.S. I have one. It was installed at the dealer when the car was brand new. As far as I know it doesn't leak after 30 yrs. I kind of wanted one anyway so it was no big deal that the car had one when I bought it earlier this year. It's real nice to take the window out and cruise the beach on a sunny day. :P

Jim,

Welcome from a neighbor just across the border in Oroville, WA. (what, four miles south?) You are the first member I've found that lives so close. Hopefully Bruce (Gator) will let those in the American Okanogan join up when he gets the Okanagan/Okanogan Valley Club going. Funny that in Canada you're in the South Okanagan while in the States we're in the Northern Okanogan. Just shows what kind of confusion that border can make. PM me if you'd like to get together and talk Z cars sometime. I'm no expert, but I'm learning right here and hands on. My car is in pieces and a major work in progress. Only drove it a few times before I started pulling it apart, but the body and mechanicals need so much work it wasn't safe to drive very far. It is a 1971 Series I built in 12/70.
