Posted April 1, 200619 yr comment_162008 I have a 79 280zx, which has a N-42 block and N-47 head, fuel injected,5-speed . I also have two parts cars, both having F-54 blocks and P-79 heads, one's a 5-speed, and one's an auto. My mods I have,or am planning are: Triple weber 40 dcoe setup, Motorsport header, 2.5 in. custom exhaust w/ high flow cat, Magnaflow muffler, Fidanza aluminum flywheel, ACT clutch kit,MSD 6al, Motorsport stage 2 cam kit. Which block, and which head out of the ones I have would be the best to use for my setup using the stock flattop pistons(from the F-54). Also , should I use the '79, or the '82 5-speed transmission? April 1, 200619 yr comment_162012 F54 blocks are reputed to be stronger and more rigid. The N47 head will give much higher compression (around 10.5:1 or so), although the combustion chamber shape may not be as efficient. April 1, 200619 yr Author comment_162018 Is 10.5 :1 too high for my setup for the street, or will it work ok? THANKS, TIM Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19475-block-and-head-selection-triple-webers/#findComment-162018 Share on other sites
April 1, 200619 yr comment_162020 From what I've read, that's close to the maximum CR you want before having to retard timing, use race fuel, or other things to prevent detonation. 93 octane is a must--one advantage being am East Coaster, I guess...Out of curiosity, why do you want to carb a 280ZX? Seems it would be easier to turboswap and get 300+ HP for the cost of triple Webers, especially since the fuel injection wiring is already there...check out member Proxlamus (sp?) and see what he's done...Steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/19475-block-and-head-selection-triple-webers/#findComment-162020 Share on other sites
April 2, 200619 yr Author comment_162126 I found a setup off of a wrecked vehicle locally, my uncle knew the guy, and i got the whole setup for $200.00. I have two late model 240sx's and I thought I'd try something different. I never messed with carbs before, so i figured I'd learn something new. I'm open to suggestions on what types of setups I can use with the parts, I have.
